Key Information• All UK schools are accredited by the British Council

• If a student is over or under the age range published, an online waiver must be completed

• Students can stay for a minimum of 1 week and a maximum of 4 weeks

• Courses longer than 4 weeks are on request, but aspects of the programme may be repeated

• Arrivals outside the transfer days are limited and on request only and subject to a supplementary cost

• Changes to the programme cannot be made to individual students

• Activities usually take place on-site and are led by LAL staff

• In Cape Town, most activities take place off-site and are led by LAL staff

Excursions (UK Summer Schools)• When numbers are around 80 or more, excursions may be

split (e.g. first week London for half the school and half to Oxford. Second week students alternate)

• If excursions are split, students on courses of two weeks or more will attend all the publicised destinations during their stay

• Students on one week courses should let LAL know at the time of booking which destination they want to attend where there is a choice

Accommodation & MealsGeneral

• Students may not be able to occupy their rooms on arrival due to cleaning turnaround

• Meals are provided on arrival at the school/ accommodation

• No meals are provided for the transport between the airport and the school – this is important for Tavistock and Torbay as the transfers are around 5 hours

• Late arrivals (after 19.00) may only be offered cold meals such as a sandwich

• Where meals are provided on the day of departure, only one packed meal for the journey home will be supplied (e.g. packed breakfast for an early departure)

• Students are allocated with students from other countries or language where possible

• If a student has a particular sharing request, this must be supplied in writing at least two weeks prior to the arrival of the student

• Sharing requests cannot be guaranteed

• All accommodation changes, including room changes in residence, are to be undertaken and authorised by LAL. No student should change room without that authorisation

• Some schools may not allow a second visit to the cafeteria so it is important this is checked on arrival to avoid embarrassment or issues with the venue school

• Access to residential accommodation during the day may be limited and subject to supervision by LAL

UK & US Summer Schools

• Students will have to vacate their rooms by 09.00

• Students will not have access to their rooms until after 16.00

Tavistock• London Heathrow:

Three shuttles on arrivals: 12.00, 15.00 and 18.30/three shuttles on departures: 02.30, 06.00 and 09.00. Time from airport to school: 5.5 hours. All other London airports and St Pancras will go through LHR.

• Arrivals: Students will be assigned to the first available shuttle. Be aware that depending on when the student comes into the Arrivals Hall, there may be a long wait for the next shuttle. We would allow approximately one hour for students to reach the Arrivals Hall after landing. They will be supervised by LAL staff.

• Departures: Students will leave on the shuttle which will get them to the airport at least 2 hours prior to departure time. Students may have to wait at the airport for more than 2 hours but they will be supervised by LAL staff until check-in and security.

Day/Family ProgrammesFor any Day Programme, parents must complete our online consent form which states where the student will be staying, with whom and a copy of the parent/guardian’s ID document will also be needed.

Unaccompanied Minor• Airlines require students to be booked as an

unaccompanied minor where they are under a certain age. This varies from airline to airline so please check with the airline and make sure payment is made for the return trip

• Parents may decide to take the service even if the airline does not require it. In this instance, they can choose arrival or departure only or both journeys

• LAL's fee is in addition to any fee that is paid to the airline

• If multiple students (maximum of six) travel together on the same flight, we will make only one charge

• LAL provides the contact details of the actual person meeting the student one week in advance. If contact details are needed earlier, LAL cannot guarantee that the person nominated will be the person collecting the student so the information may change nearer the time as above

• Full DaySame as Daytime, plus:- Dinner 6 days per week (except Torbay, and 5 days for US Summer Schools)- Evening leisure programme (5 days for US Summer Schools, 4 days for South Africa)- One free day per week to spend with family or friends- Two free days per week to spend with family or friends (US Summer Schools only)

Family Programmes

• If a legal guardian is studying with the child, further information proving this status will have to be provided, translated and notarised

• If only one parent is studying with the child, a translated, notarised letter of consent from the other parent is required

• Families will be accommodated in shared bedroom accommodation unless otherwise requested. See single room supplements. If three family members, one single room supplement required

• Parent/legal guardian receives 15 hours’ General English in morning classes

• All lessons are in the morning but may be slightly different times – please check timetables

• Adult student also receives access to LAL Advantage, our student e-learning platform

• There is no set leisure programme at LAL London but we can help with arrangements

TransfersGeneral• LAL representative could be the driver• All third party companies providing transport services

on behalf of LAL are checked for their suitability to work with under 18s

• If a student is not using our transfer service, LAL still needs the flight details for both arrival and departure and will need the name and contact number of the person dropping off and/or collecting their child.

• LAL arranges students to be at airports at least two hours before departure. Requests to be at the airport significantly earlier may not be granted or may require further supplement



Pocket Money• Although not obligatory, students will be asked to

deposit their pocket money for safe-keeping in the school safe. LAL will not accept responsibility for money that is lost or stolen which has not been placed in our safe

HomestaysGeneral• Visitors to homestays are only allowed by

arrangement with the host• Students are not allowed to cook• Students are not allowed to smoke• Students must not use the landline/fixed telephone• Curfews are in place• Where a student is placed in shared rooms, we cannot

guarantee that there will be another student available to share

Torbay• Students have breakfast and evening meals with the

homestay• A packed lunch will be provided• Sunday is a free day from lessons and excursions• Students over 12 travel to and from school on foot or

using public transport• Students can buy bus tickets if they wish• Students 12 and under are transported to and from

the school in private vehicle• As we transport the younger students to and from

school, we usually place them further away from the school

• Long stay supplement • Additional safeguarding checks must be made to

the homestays for any students under 16 years old staying for more than 27 nights

• These checks are conducted by Torbay Council Children’s Services and are mandatory

• Additional paperwork is also required for the student’s parents/guardian to complete.

• The costs for this covers the fees for the additional safeguarding checks

Summer Schools• Students have all meals at the school except

breakfast and dinner twice a week. See timetable for exact days for dinner

• Students will finish activities at 21.30 so they can travel back to their host

Free time & leaving the campusAll Programmes• Students are given free-time in groups of at least

3 when on excursions (students under 12 are fully supervised by LAL staff or group leaders)

• Parents who want to visit and/or remove their children for a day or overnight must give LAL at least 24 hours’ notice and bring valid photo ID

• Where a nominated person is to visit or remove a student from the campus, written notice must be sent to LAL along with a copy of the parent or legal guardian’s valid photo ID

UK & US Summer Schools• Free time can only be taken when there is no

scheduled excursion. Students are only allowed to leave the campus under the following conditions:

- During the afternoon (locally - not Central London)- Aged 16 or over- Consent is given by parents via LAL’s online Welfare and Consent form only (no e-mails or PDFs accepted)- Students must be in groups of 3 or more

Torbay• Students must remain on-site during break and lunch

times

Cape Town• Students are not allowed to leave the campus during

their free time if they are not in a minimum group of 3 students, or with their Group Leader or an LAL staff member

• Students are not allowed out of the residence after 22.00

Berkhamsted• Where the homestay is not within reasonable walking

distance (30 minutes), LAL provides private transport to and from the homestay in the morning and the evening.

When an activity ends after 21.30, students within walking distance are accompanied home

London Twickenham• Where the homestay is not within reasonable walking

distance (30 minutes), a public transport travel card is provided

• Students are expected to travel to and from school on foot or public transport

• When an activity ends after 21.30, a shared taxi is provided by LAL to get the student home. (shared with other students)

Fort Lauderdale• Students are collected and dropped off at school

every day

Cape Town• Students have breakfast and evening meals with the

homestay• Lunch is served at the school• Packed lunch is prepared by the school for full day

excursions• Sunday is a free day from lessons and excursions• Students over 12 travel to and from school on foot or

using public transport• Where the homestay is not within reasonable walking

distance, a bus card is provided.• When an activity ends after 21.30, a shared taxi is

provided by LAL to get the student home. (shared with other students)

• It can take 24 hours/one working day to process a payment

• LAL cannot give cash to a student until payment has been received in our bank account. Proof of payment is not sufficient
