Young Christians face many challenges today
Youth does not excuse one from proper conduct
Young people can live in such a way that they will not be despised (disrespected)
Young people can and must set the proper example for others
Youthful respect is earned, not automatically given
Young Timothy was respected (Acts 16:1-4)
Young David would not be despised by his brothers, by Saul, by Goliath (1 Sam. 17:28-29, 31-33, 42-44)
Be an example because your life affects others (Tit. 2:6-8)
Be an example because you are the future of the church
Words are powerful things (Prov. 18:21)
Refrain from filthy words (Eph. 4:29; 5:4; Col. 3:8) … God cares (Mt. 12:36-37)
Use words to influence for good (Col. 4:6; 1 Pet. 3:15)
Avoid hypocrisy (Mt. 15:8; Jas. 3:10)
Your heart controls your tongue (Mt. 15:18)
Your daily living is important (Eccl. 12:1)
Your daily living must match a standard (Eph. 4:1; Phil. 1:27)
Your peers are looking at you (Mt. 5:13-15; Phil. 2:15; 1 Pet. 2:9-12)
Your mind must be controlled in order to control your living (Rom. 12:1-2; Phil. 4:8)
Not “free love” or a “love affair”…
Love is expressed in commandment keeping (Jn. 14:15,23; 1 Jn. 5:1-3)
Love is expressed in service to others – “charity” (1 Jn. 3:15-18; 4:7-8)
Love is selective (1 Jn. 2:15-17)
One’s spirit (mind / attitude / disposition) is critical
A zealous attitude - you can be zealous in your service (Rom. 12:11; Rev. 3:16)
An excelling attitude - you can excel in you work for the Lord (1 Cor. 15:58)
A high attitude – you can set your mind on things above (Col. 3:1-2)
Faith in God is necessary (Heb. 11:1-3,6)
Faith shows itself in works (Jas. 2:14-26)
Faith that does not waver is important (Rom. 4:20; Jas. 1:6)
Faith that is not quenched (Dan. 3, 6)
Modest dress that does not promote impure thoughts (1 Tim. 2:9)
Pure thoughts and deeds (Dan. 1:5,8; 1 Tim. 5:22)
Avoid youthful lusts (Gen. 39:12; 1 Tim. 6:11; 2 Tim. 2:22; Psa. 119:9-11)
No deceit (1 Pet. 2:1)
Timothy, as a young Christian, had a tried and true character (Phil. 2:22)
Do you have the same as a young Christian today?
