CATEQUESIS CATOLICA
LA IMPORTANCIA DE LA FE EN EL HOGARLa fe generalmente se describe como un viaje. El Papa Francisco nos recuerda que la fe es la base que nos sostiene en este mundo caótico. A través de la fe, aprendemos la memoria del pasado (la historia de salvación) y del futuro que Dios nos promete. El conocimiento es vital para la fe también. El Papa escribe; “la fe sin verdad no salva.” (24) (Lumen Fidei y OSV Luz de Fe)
El Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica afirma que los padres son los principales y primeros educadores de sus hijos (1653). Reconocidos como “la iglesia doméstica por el Concilio Vaticano II, las familias creyentes tienen una importancia primordial como Fe viva radiante (1656). La educación en la Fe por los padres deben comenzar en los primeros años del niño y esta catequesis debe preceder, acompañar y enriquecer otras formas de instrucción en la Fe (2226).
Nuestro llamado a este ministerio de enseñar la Fe en el núcleo familiar se expresa de diferentes maneras: a través de la oración, reconociendo el amor de Dios en los acontecimientos cotidianos, leyendo la Biblia juntos y muy especialmente a través de asistencia regular a misa.
Como católicos, creemos que la celebración dominical de la Eucaristía es el corazón de la vida de la Iglesia (2177). Los padres, quienes en el Bautismo asumen la responsabilidad de educar aquella vida que Dios les ha confiado (1252), están obligados a compartir la Fe con sus hijos los domingos, así como en los días de Obligación

FAITH AT HOMEFaith is often described as a journey. Pope Francis reminds us that Faith is our foundation, grounding us in a chaotic world. Through faith, we learn both the memory of the past (the story of salvation) and the future God promises to us. Knowledge is vital to faith as well, Pope Francis writes, for “faith without truth does not save” (24). (Lumen Fidei and OSV Light of Faith)
This journey begins at home with you, the parents, who are the principal and first educators of their children (CCC 1653). Referred to as the domestic church by the Second Vatican Council, believing families are of primary importance as centers of living radiant faith (1656). Education in the faith by parents should begin in the child’s earliest years and this catechesis should precede, accompany and enrich other forms of instruction in the faith (2226).Our calling to this ministry of teaching the faith through the family is expressed in a variety of ways: through family prayer, recognizing God’s love in daily events, reading the Bible together and most especially through regular Mass attendance.
As Catholics, we believe that the Sunday celebration of the Eucharist is at the heart of the Church’s life (2177). Parents, whom at Baptism assume their role as nurturers of the life that God has entrusted to them (1252), are obliged to share the faith with their children through Sunday and Holy Day of Obligation Mass attendance.
Preparation for the sacraments is only part of the Catholic faith formation and should not be the sole reason for religious education. The Seven Sacraments continue the saving work of Jesus until he comes again; they form the center of the celebration of the Christian mystery. Through the ministry of the Church, all are invited to hear the Good News, follow Christ and share in these saving mysteries; mysteries that symbolize, make possible, realize and nurture the grace of the sacraments in the baptized. Participation in the sacraments is not simply an option; rather, it is foundational to sustain the faithful in union with the very life of the Trinity and to strengthen them for the rigors of living their faith as committed disciples.

PROGRAMA DE CONFIRMACIÓNPreparación SacramentalPor virtud del bautismo sus hijos están llamados a participar de los sacramentos de la Iglesia y es fundamental sostener la fe en unión con la vida de la Santísima Trinidad. La preparación para la confirmación, como mínimo, debe comenzar con instrucción del 7mo grado. Sin embargo, las clases de educación religiosa ofrecidas en 3ro a 6to grado son la Fundación para la preparación de la confirmación. El Programa de Confirmación en la Iglesia Católica St. Elizabeth busca preparar a los adolescentes para una vida larga relacionada con Jesucristo y su Iglesia. Para que un alumno comience la Preparación de Confirmación, deben cumplir con los requisitos establecidos por la Diócesis de Austin. Favor de revisar cómo aplicamos las siguiendo políticas diocesanas.
“Al reconocer que la formación en la fe es un proceso permanente, un mínimo de dos años de educación religiosa, Se requiere de la educación en una parroquia o en un programa de escuela católica preceda inmediatamente a la preparación para Confirmación.”Por lo tanto, para recibir el sacramento en la primavera, el estudiante debe de haber atendido con regularidad y haber asistido a la formación de la escuela secundaria dos años consecutivos.
En constancia con la política diocesana, el Sacramento de la confirmación se recibe generalmente cuando un estudiante está en el 10 (décimo) grado de la escuela secundaria. Los padres deben entender que la preparación puede extenderse si el estudiante no expresa adecuadamente la comprensión de los conceptos de fe para su edad y grado o no asiste a la misa con regularidad.
Durante su preparación para la confirmación, se requerirá que los estudiantes se unan a un ministerio parroquial, sirviendo como un discípulo de Cristo, así como seleccionar el nombre de un Santo de confirmación y asistir a un retiro fuera del sitio. También se requerirá una carta al pastor describiendo su viaje de fe, servicio y deseo de recibir el Sacramento. Los detalles de estos se detallan en las páginas siguientes.

CONFIRMATION PROGRAM
Sacrament PreparationBy virtue of their baptism, your child has been called to participate in the sacraments of the Church and it is foundational to sustain the faithful in union with the very life of the Trinity. Preparation for Confirmation, at a minimum, should begin with 7th grade instruction. However, the Religious Education classes offered in 3rd thru 6th grade are the foundation for confirmation preparation. The Confirmation Program at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church seeks to prepare teenagers for a life-long relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church. In order for a student to begin Confirmation Preparation, they must meet the requirements set forth by the Diocese of Austin. Please review how we apply the following Diocesan policies.
“In recognizing that faith formation is a lifelong process, a minimum of two years of formal religious education in a parish or Catholic school program is required to immediately precede preparation for Confirmation.” Therefore, in order to receive the Sacrament in the Spring,the student must have regularly attended High School formation in two consecutive years.
In keeping with the Diocesan policy, the sacrament of Confirmation is generally received when a student is in the 10th grade of high school. Parents should understand that preparation can be extended if the student does not adequately express an understanding of the faith concepts for their age and grade level or does not attend Mass regularly.
During their preparation for Confirmation, students will be required to join a parish ministry, serving as a disciple of Christ, as well as select a confirmation saint name and attend an off-site retreat. A letter to the pastor describing their faith journey, service and desire to receive the sacrament will also be required. Details for these are outlined in the following pages.
During their second year of preparation for confirmation, students are required to attend a retreat specific to helping them understand the sacrament they are preparing for. If your child cannot attend the scheduled retreat, please see an YM office representative for an alternative.

Todos los candidatos y sus familias deben asistir a misa todos los domingos (o sábados por la noche) y en los días santos de obligación. La participación regular en la misa dominical y los días santos de obligación está en el sistema de honor. Si no asiste, debe considerar los motivos por los que participa en la preparación de la confirmación.

ATTENDANCE POLICY TARDINESS
1. Students who arrive 20 minutes after the start of class, while still welcome, will be counted as absent and will need to complete a make-up assignments.
2. Attendance in a student’s second year of preparation is extremely important. Students will be asked to complete a make-up assignment when they are absent; more than 4 absences for the year {without completing makeup assignments} may deem the student ineligible to receive the sacrament of Confirmation in the current year. Determination of eligibility will be handled on an individual basis. Therefore it is extremely important that students sign in for each class.
3. Please contact the Religious Education Office if you would like an update on your student’s participation level.
CONFIRMATION PREPARATION CHECK LIST Regular participation in the Sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation All sacramental paperwork turned in by February 1 of their 2nd year of preparation 80% attendance for two consecutive years of High School classes in preparation for the
sacrament. Students with less than 80% participation will be asked to wait another year.

contact the Church of Baptism with the following information: Name of Child, Date of Birth, Date of Baptism, Father’s name, and Mother’s name including maiden name.
Sponsor Information Form and Sponsor Covenant – Due February 1st of their second year Letter to Fr. Juan Carlos including Saint report– Due February 1st of their second year Service Report- Due February 1st of their second year {students are encouraged to begin their
service requirements in their first year of preparation.} The goal of a disciple is to participate in the life of the parish; students should engage in a ministry of the church early in their preparation
MASS ATTENDANCE ON SUNDAYS AND ON HOLY DAYS OF OBLIGATION The Mass is the source and summit of our Catholic Faith. All candidates and their families must attend Mass every Sunday (or Saturday evening) and on Holy Days of Obligation. Regular participation in Sunday Mass & Holy Days of Obligation is on the honor system. If you do not attend, you should consider the reasons why you are participating in confirmation preparation.

RETIRO DE CONFIRMACIÓN Y DÍA DE REFLEXIÓNEn su segundo año de preparación, todos los candidatos que se preparan para recibir el Sacramento de la Confirmación deben asistir a un retiro. Los estudiantes que no puedan asistir al retiro de Confirmación programado deben comunicarse con un representante de la Oficina de YM para discutir otras opciones.
También se alienta a los estudiantes a que asistan a oportunidades de enriquecimiento de la fe, tales como DCYC (Conferencia Diocesana Católica de Jóvenes), Godstock o Teen ACTS. CONFIRMATION RETREAT AND DAY OF REFLECTION In their second year of preparation, all candidates preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation are required to attend a retreat. Students not able to attend the scheduled Confirmation retreat should contact a representative of the YM Office to discuss other options.
Students are also encouraged to attend faith enriching opportunities such as DCYC (Diocesan Catholic Youth Conference), Godstock or Teen ACTS. These retreats are not intended to count towards the requirements of confirmation, they are just a great way to continue to grow in one’s faith.
CHOOSING A CONFIRMATION SAINT A canonized Christian Saint is a man or a woman who has displayed heroic virtue and has been recognized by the Church. A saint’s name is chosen because this saint should act as a model and as an intercessor in the life of the candidate. The saint chosen must be Canonized Catholic Saint. Those men and women designated by the church as, “Venerable” or “Blessed,” should NOT be chosen. There are numerous online resources for learning about the lives of Saints. LETTER TO THE PASTOR Candidates for Confirmation must submit a typed letter to our pastor to introduce themselves, describe their relationship with the Lord, why they are requesting to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation and how reception of the Confirmation will help them to live as a disciple of Christ. Address your letter, “Dear Father Juan Carlos” and include the following:
Introduce yourself: give your full name (first, middle and last name), grade and school, and that you are a Candidate for Confirmation at St. Elizabeth.
Explain the reasons you want to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Give a couple of examples of how you plan to live as a disciple after Confirmation. Mention the saint name you have selected for Confirmation and why you have chosen this
saint. Who is the saint? When and where did he or she live, family life, job, etc What have you learned about this Saint through your research? Why did you select this
Saint to represent your faith journey? How is this person a good role model for you to follow as a confirmed Catholic?
Mention one aspect of your faith that you have learned more about during your time of preparation for Confirmation. Explain why this is important.
All letters should be typed in a 12pt font, a minimum of one page, and double spaced. To avoid having to rewrite your letter, please do not copy and paste from the internet.

SERVICIOLos candidatos deben servir activamente a los demás; es importante no solo escuchar y comprender la Palabra de Dios, sino también para aplicar las lecciones aprendidas. Es la responsabilidad del candidato de cumplir con el requisito del proyecto de servicio.

CORPORAL WORKS OF MERCY / SERVICE
Candidates should actively serve others; it is important not only to listen and to understand the Word of God but also to apply the lessons learned. To serve others is a true gift for both the recipient and the giver. This is essential to living as a Catholic and following in Jesus’ footsteps. The connection between Confirmation and service is that each confirmed Catholic has a responsibility to serve as a living example of Jesus’ teachings to serve one another. God calls us to serve and we say, “Here I am, Lord!” This is also an opportunity for the candidates to explore ways in which they can be of service to our parish and to our community at large.
REQUIREMENTS Four service projects: 2 in the parish community (See Ministry List on Page 23) 2 outside the parish community Candidates should complete document their projects and hours in service on the attached Service Project Form. (See page 25) Opportunities will be offered to students throughout the year from within the parish. It is the responsibility of the student to sign-up for and complete these requirements.
GUIDELINES 1. Service should reflect work done beyond the usual chores required at home. 2. Service should primarily be related to the Catholic faith through projects at the parish or in
ministry to the poor, disabled, elderly, or homebound. 3. The service cannot have financial rewards. (No payment for services) House chores and
babysitting are not considered service projects. 4. Service projects should be at least one hour induration. 5. Service should be done with a willing heart and carried out in a generous spirit. It is the
candidate’s responsibility to fulfill the service project requirement.

CÓDIGO DE VESTIMENTAEn un esfuerzo por crear un ambiente centrado en Cristo, la vestimenta y el comportamiento deben reflejar la actitud de Cristo. Código de vestimenta. Ningún joven debería llevar ropa que contenga un mensaje violento, ofensivo o anticristiano.

CÓDIGO DE CONDUCTA
1. Comportamiento: No se tolerarán los actos de intimidación y / o agresivos, amenazantes o violentos.
2. Artículos ilegales: no se tolerarán las drogas, el alcohol, las armas u otros artículos ilegales. Si se encuentra un adolescente con estos artículos en su poder, se llamará primero a la policía y luego a los padres.
3. Teléfonos celulares: los teléfonos celulares no se pueden ver ni usar durante Abide o Mayhem. Si un adolescente trae una teléfono celular, debe guardarse desde el momento en que nos reunimos a las 5 p.m. (Abide) o en la preparación de confirmación directa, Catequesis 101 hasta cerrar la oración en pequeños grupos.
a. Los adolescentes que usan sus teléfonos tendrán sus teléfonos recogidos y devueltos al final de la Noche de Juventud.
b. Si un adolescente no entrega su teléfono celular después de la violación de la regla del teléfono celular, su padre (s) será notificado y será enviado a casa.
c. Padres, por favor tómense el tiempo para comunicar esta política con su hijo adolescente.
4. Respeto: el respeto es importante para crear un ambiente donde uno pueda crecer en su fe. Se espera que los adolescentes respeten a los voluntarios adultos y sus compañeros durante la Noche de la juventud.
5. Salir Temprano: los adolescentes que se escapan de la escuela o no van a la ubicación apropiada sus padres serán llamados inmediatamente. Si un adolescente necesita salir temprano por una razón familiar, los padres deben venir y comprobarlos a través de uno de los miembros del equipo adulto. A los adolescentes no se les permitirá salir temprano a menos que un padre los firme.

DRESS CODE In efforts to create a Christ-Centered environment, dress and behavior must reflect the attitude of Christ. No youth should be wearing clothing that contains a violent, offensive or anti-Christian message.
For Girls: Short shorts, strapless shirts, low cut tops, skin tight garments and shirts exposing mid- riff or underwear are not to be worn. Girls in violation of the dress code will be asked to put on a t-shirt or longer shorts to remedy the violation.
For Boys: Saggy pants and short shorts are not to be worn. Boys in violation will be asked to change or sent home.
CODE OF CONDUCT 1. Behavior: Bullying and/or aggressive, threatening or violent acts will not be tolerated. 2. Illegal Items: Drugs, alcohol, weapons or other illegal items will not be tolerated. If a teen is
found possessing these items, the police will be called first and then the parent. 3. Cell Phones: Cell Phones are not to be seen or used during class time unless an activity calls
for the use of a phone. If a teen brings a cell phone, it must be put away from the time we gather until closing prayer in small groups.
a. Teen who use their phones without permission will have their phones collected and returned at the end of Youth Night.
b. If a teen will not release their cell phone after violation of the cell phone rule, their parent(s) will be notified and they will be sent home.
4. Respect: Respect is vital to creating an environment where one can grow in their faith. It is expected that teens respect the adult volunteers and their peers during Youth Night.
5. Leaving Early: Teens who sneak off campus or do not go to the proper location will have their parents called immediately. If a teen does need to leave early for a family reason, the parent should come and check them out through one of the adult team members. Teens will NOT be permitted to leave early unless a parent signs them out.
6. Physical affection: Teens who may have a significant other at Youth Night should be sure their conduct reflects a focus on their primary relationship with Jesus during Youth Night. Public displays of affection are not appropriate during Youth Night.

DROP-OFF AND PICK UP POLICIES DROP OFF Location: Parents dropping off students should do so at or around the covered drive area on
the west side of the church. Please DO NOT drop off students in front of the REC or PMC as this creates too many places where traffic backs up and students are leaving cars or walking in front of vehicles.
Exiting: When entering from the North driveway for drop-off, go traight to area between the chapel and the covered drive, then head out the East driveway. From the East driveway, you can drive through to the covered drive and exit the North driveway.
Parking: Students and parents parking for the evening are asked to park in the parking area south of the chapel and carefully walk to the Parish Hall. Drivers and walkers should show care and courtesy to those around them.
DURING CLASS Attendance: Students are NOT ALLOWED to leave the program area of the campus. This
is normally the Parish Hall, but may also include the REC (for small groups) and the field areas in between. For the safety of the students, they MUST remain with the group.
Early dismissal: If there are specific needs (early departure for work or family reasons, etc) for students to leave early, they should communicate to one of the Adult Leaders at the beginning of the meeting when they need to leave and why; a parent is asked to sign the child out prior to leaving early.
PICK-UP Location: Parents picking up students should do so at or around the covered drive area on the
west side of the church. Please DO NOT pick up students in front of the REC or PMC. We must control the dismissal of students from one point and failure to do so will cause us to have sign-out procedure which no one wants to do.

St Elizabeth KJT: a fraternal support group for the Church that helps with different projects around the Parish. KJT sponsors the monthly pancake breakfasts.

Fiesta & Event Ministry: Teens will help set-up and clean-up the hall for events as well as work and prepare for the Parish Fall Fiesta.
Religious Education: Teens may serve the Religious Education Department in administrative needs, events, re- treats, RCIA, etc.

ROLE OF SPONSOR The Code of Canon Law states “the person to be confirmed is to have a sponsor. The sponsor’s function is to take care that the person confirmed behaves as a true witness of Christ and faithfully fulfills the duties inherent in this sacrament.” Canon #892 A sponsor is a role model, a guide and encourager. Therefore, they have to be living their Catholic faith. They have to be fully initiated (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation) and if married, must be married in the Catholic Church. They must attend mass each Sunday as both the Ten Commandments and the precepts of the Church teach.
A sponsor must be one who is in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church. Parents are not allowed to sponsor their own children. At St. Elizabeth the sponsor must be significantly more mature than the person being confirmed. For that reason, high school students are not allowed to sponsor their peers unless approved by the RE Office. Candidates may have only one sponsor present them to the Bishop at Confirmation.
Sponsors are asked to: • Pray with and for the candidate. • Share what Confirmation means to them with candidate. • Be an active member of their local parish. • Share conversation and encouragement. •Attend the Rehearsal and Confirmation Liturgy • Sign the Confirmation Sponsor Covenant.

PARENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIESStudents are taught by volunteer catechists (teachers) who donate their time and talent to the children and youth of our parish. The fundamental task of a catechist is to be a witness of the Catholic faith by proclaiming Christ’s message, developing community, leading people to worship and prayer, and motivating them to serve others (NCD 213). The requirements for this ministry are:
EIM Compliance (Ethics and Integrity in Ministry) (see below) Baptized, fully initiated, practicing Catholic Not younger than 18 years of age for Catechists, 14 years of age for Classroom
Assistants. If married, marriage is recognized by the Catholic Church. Willingness to attend all catechist training and formation workshops.
In addition to catechists, there are numerous other volunteer opportunities in the Religious Education program with varying time commitments:
Weekly Office Volunteer (answering phone, copies, filing, mail outs, translations, etc.)
Substitute Catechist Special events (registration, prayer services, sacraments and retreats)

Ethics and Integrity in Ministry
All volunteers, both catechists and office volunteers over the age of 18 must be EIM certified. Workshop attendance is required every 3 years after the initial EIM Workshop. There are three (3) steps required to become EIM compliant:

Workshop attendance is required within 60 days of submitting the application.

Dear God our Father, you have called all Christian families to be a sign of your love to the world.
Help us to be generous with the gifts of life and love that you have showered on our family. May we share them so that our homes become true signs of unitive and fruitful love.
Let us never forget to thank you each day for all that sustains us and to look to Christ, who comes to us in the events of family life, in the sacraments of the Church, and in service to the poor.
In all of this, our family becomes a living expression of your Church, a hallowed home of life and love. By the power of the Holy Spirit, may all of us—spouses, parents, and children—share, as members of his Body, in Jesus’ mission to build a civilization of love.
