RULE 1 Breathe, relax, and believe in your talent. You’ve worked hard this year. Just do your best and remain stress free.
RULE 2 Read the questions before you read the text. Then, read all of the text or listen to all of the audio before you answer the questions. .
RULE 3 When in doubt, go back to the text or audio. The answer is always in there!
RULE 4 Be sure you know what the question is asking you. Double check that you have read carefully. Check for words you may have missed or any meaning you may have misinterpreted.
RULE 5 Read difficult poems and text slower and, many times, a second time. Also, the questions may give you clues that will help you understand the difficult sections.
RULE 6 Notice bolded words, number/statistics, bulleted lists, or captions, text inserts, sidebars. You will, most likely be able to use this information in your writing.

RULE 7 Eliminate the wrong answers (the two answers that have nothing to do with the question).
RULE 8 Spend time on questions that you can figure out. Ask yourself, “Will I know it in 15 minutes?” If not, move on.
RULE 9 Do mark questions for review that you have down to 2 possible answers. Future questions may have clues to the answer.

Take notes! You have a piece of paper. Use it. Use everything you’ve got.

NEVER GIVE UP! Even if you are tired, you’re sick, you’re reading a really boring passage. Keep going! Use the clues and NEVER GIVE UP!

Before listening to the audio, take notes about what you need to listen for by reviewing the questions, the titles, and other text features. These are your clues.
