That's MECircle Time Activity

Students love to talk and share stores! And as much as we love to heartheir stores unfortunately we know very well if we let one student starttalking, then we might reach the end of the session and no lesson done.But this activity allows all students to share something while allowingyou to have more control of your time. How it works: The teacher asks a number of questions relevant to students lives outside of school, andif a student relates to the prompt they stand up (or raise their hands) saying: “That’s Me”. Below are some Ramadan related prompts. The key is to ask questions that allow each child theopportunity to say “That’s Me” at least one time. 1.       I am fasting today.2.       I fasted one day or more so far.3.       I will fast at least one day this month.4.       I went to the masjid last night.5.       I helped prepare iftar last night.6.       I prayed fajr this morning.7.       I visited family this weekend.8.       We had guests over for iftar this weekend.9.       I said my duas/athkar this morning.10.   I like samosas.11.   I don’t like samosas.12.   I love dates.13.   I don’t eat dates.14.   I sometimes go to the masjid for iftar.15.   I always sit and eat iftar with my family.16.   I am grateful to Allah for Ramadan.17.   I love Allah and His messenger.

If I had one dua to be answered by Allah I would ask for…10. (While holding any object) This is a (name of item) but it’s really not a (name of item), it is a___________. I use it to _____________. Sample:This is a pen but it’s really not a pen it is a miswak. I use it to brush my teeth. (More examples: A microphone to call the athan; a telescope to site the new moon; a straw to drink mymilk etc.)

Hosting community circles at the beginning or end of the school day is a great way topromote community within the classroom. It also promotes inclusion, equality, andindividuality as each student gets to express their uniqueness in a fun way. All students along with the teacher stand in a large circle. The teacher choses oneprompt, and everyone gets a chance to respond to the prompt however they like. Thereare no right/wrong answers. Note: The activity should not end until everyone in the circle has had a chance to speak.Students can request to pass, but the teacher should return back to them and offer themanother chance at the end.
