Wn and yn can also be used as pronouns of respect. Status, apart from old age, demandsrespect in Yorb society. These pronouns are, therefore, used for people like doctors, judges, professors, ones boss, ones father, mother, uncle, or aunt, etc. For example, when you want to asksomeone a professors name, i.e. What is his/her name? You say k ni ork wn? If theProfessors name is ld), you respond: Ork wn ni jgbn ld (His/her name is Professor
ld).
Recall the emphatic pronouns below that you learned in Chapter 1 lesson 3, and compare them tothe possessive pronouns above:

Lesson 2 - k Kej
The Plural marker wn
wn is a plural marker that is placed before the noun. For example:
1. Mo ri wn obnrin n ln I saw the women yesterday2. wn il n j. The houses are burning3. wn knrin ma d fl Men do wear hats
Compare:
1b. Mo ri obnrin n ln I saw the woman yesterday2b. Il n j. The house is burning.
However, the use of wn is sometimes redundant and therefore does not necessarily
have to be used. For example:
4. Obnrin k d fl Women do not wear hats5. md k sn Children dont sleep
In 4 and 5, the subjects do not have to be preceded by wn to indicate plurality.
We should, however note that wn can be singular when used honorifically--as a mark ofrespect as for example 'wn bb mi n k n k i yn my father asked me to say 'hi' toyou.
More examples:
wn il Houses
wn b Parents
wn md Children
wn ile wn their houses
Ile wn their house
wn ar mi my people
Il b mi my parents house
Il wn b mi my parents house
wn il wn b mi the houses of my parents
Mo frn wn md I love children

The interrogative Nbo
A t k a e b r N b o
Nbois an interrogative form that means where?.Nbo ni..? Where is.?
The verb w ( to be / to exist) is used in combination withnbo ni to ask a questionconcerning the location of something or someone.
For example:
br: Nbo ni w w? Where is the book?
dhn: w w lri tbl. (The) book is on the table.
br: Nbo ni kpt w? Where is the computer?
dhn: Kbd w nwjukpt.
The keyboard is in front of the computer.
However, w can also be used as a response to indicate how someone is doing, as in thefollowing:
Bb k? How is your father doing?
