• Campaigns– Purpose: Build reach and reputation through

a series of targeted campaigns, events and contests that engage students in taking a meaningful action in the fight against climate change

– Lead: Michael LaFemina (starting in spring)

• Action Teams– Purpose: Provide tools and resources for student leaders to start Action Teams

that quickly direct passion into action while creating a community of committed students across the nation, united in the fight against climate change.

• Toolkit– Purpose: A dynamic and engaging resource designed to meet

students at their point of need and interest– Lead: Ashlee– Structure:

• Introduction and Relevance: Explains the essentials of toolkit, introduces basics of climate science and highlights important role schools play in fight against global warming

• Leadership: Provides basic tutorials on how to types of leadership, running an effective team and how to run a successful project

• Project Ideas and Guidance: A directory of project ideas and guidelines written for and by students. This section will also be supported by our local partners moving forward.

• Connect and Direct (Local Partners)– Purpose: To aggregate regional partnership opportunities for

interested students groups that want to seek more in depth and specific support beyond what ACE can provide.

– Lead: Emily and Regional YEP Coordinators– Structure:

• Regional teams will work together to find local partnerships with organizations that can help Action Teams with projects and campaigns.

• ACE in turn will support partners by embedding partner projects and campaigns within the Action Toolkit and by promoting it among Action Team community.

• Facebook Causes– Purpose: To create a space for students to showcase their

projects, communicate easily with their school Action Teams, and network with other Action Teams around the country

– Lead: Ashlee and Regional YEP Coordinators

– ACE staff will strive to make Facebook Cause pages engaging by posting frequent bulletins about opportunities, various forms of relevant media (video and photos) and use it as a platform to create challenge campaigns and contests between various Action Teams.

• Grants and Rewards Structure– Purpose: Support and incentivize student Action Teams to take

on projects that will lower their school or communities carbon footprint and raise their youth voice.

– Lead: Ashlee and Regional YEP Coordinators– Structure: 1) Get Official – 2) Complete Projects – 3)Earn Rewards!

1. ACE Ambassador registers their team with the Regional YEP Coordinator by filling out the “Get Official” form

1. Includes: selecting an ACE Ambassador, holding the first meeting, getting 10 students to join, and finding a teacher sponsor

• Teams complete projects (found in our toolkit or ones they create). When a project is complete, the ACE Ambassador submits the “Take Action – Get Stars” form to their Regional YEP Coordinator

• The team earns Star Points for their project - the more Star Points a team has, the more Rewards they get!

• Grants and Rewards (cont’d)– Grants and Rewards:

• 1 STAR: Starter Grant Application– Chance to apply for a $250 Action Team starter grant

» Accepted on rolling basis

• 3 STAR: Climate Hero Resources– Rough Guide to Climate Change– Better World Shopper Guide– Environmental Equation

• 5 STAR: Climate Hero Gear– 5 T-Shirts – 5 Water Bottles– Option to get more t-shirts and water bottles for discounted price

• 5+ STAR: Major Climate Hero Rewards– Eligible to participate in drawings for major prizes, such as flip cameras, tickets to conferences

and major events, and features on our website

• ANY Action Team: School Grant Application– Any Official ACE Action Team can apply for an ACE School Grant of $2,500 to $5,000. (Grants

are only available for ACE Action Teams.)» Must be submitted by: February 12» Winners announced late March

• Scholarships– Purpose: Provide students with incentives to get more deeply involved

in the movement, take action and increase the ability of ACE to present at more schools.

– Lead - Ashlee

– $2500 Scholarships, 10 Total (NATIONWIDE)

– Timeline:• February 10, 2010 Apps DUE

• March 17 Winners Announced

• May – August Leadership Training (1 day, each region)

• Leadership Training– Purpose: A series of training sessions intended to gather like-minded youth

leaders together to help find their unique voice in the movement, teach them an array of leadership and organizing skills, provide access to shared resources, and exchange ideas about the most effective way to grow the climate justice movement.

– Lead - John

– Description: ACE will host training sessions in all regions where ACE has a presence. These sessions will be open to all youth, but we will specifically target scholarship/grant winners and Action Team leaders to attend the trainings. ACE will offer the following four training modules:

1. Public Narrative

2. Leadership

3. Climate Science

4. Town Hall

• Public Narrative Training– 3-4 Hours

– Purpose: equips students with the ability to inspire others to join the movement

• Focuses on the ‘why’ of organizing rather than the ‘how’

• The art of translating values into action through stories

• Leadership Training– 1 – 1.5 Hours

– Purpose: teaches essential leadership and organizing skills• Types of leaderships

• Empowering others to lead

• Organizing an effective team

• 8 steps for successfully developing and implementing projects/campaigns

• Climate Science Training– 1 Hour

– Purpose: provides students with an in-depth understand of the most up-to-date climate science

• Greenhouse effect• Difference between hole in the ozone as well as Montreal Protocol CFC Success Story• CO2/temperature correlation• Arctic Sea Ice Decline & Albedo Positive Feedback Loop• Population Growth and Resource Use Patterns• Consequences of a Warmer Planet• Increasing Trend in Sever & Unpredictable Weather• IPCC projections for potential consequences given a certain global temperature rise

• Town Hall Training– 1 – 1.5 Hours

– Purpose: teach students how to successfully plan and carryout a town hall meeting in their community

• Town Hall overview

• Event planning, community networking and media outreach

• 6 steps to making your town hall a reality
