Day Seven: Yellowstone National Park Meals: B, DYellowstone National Park is America’s first national park. It was established in 1872. Yellowstone extends through Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. The park’s name is derived from the Yellowstone River, which runs through the park. It’s unclear if the name first referred to the sulfurous yellow rocks below the falls of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River or to the sandstone bluffs that border its shores. We spend a day in the park with stops at Canyon Village Visitor Centre, Tower Junction, Mammoth Hot Springs, and Norris Geyser Basin. Keep an eye open for gray wolves, re-introduced to the park in 1995, bison, grizzly bears, bobcats, and many other types of wildlife that inhabit this vast park.

Day Eight: Yellowstone National Park Meals: BThe day is devoted to a tour of the park and its most famous treasures including: the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Artist Point, Lower Falls, Lake Yellowstone, Old Faithful, Old Faithful Lodge, Firehole Drive, and Fountain Paint Pots Nature Trail (45 minutes; mostly level walk, with views of all four types of geo-thermal features found in Yellowstone). There is time for shopping in downtown West Yellowstone.

Day Nine: West Yellowstone – Missoula, MT Meals: B, DSpend the morning in West Yellowstone visiting the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center, a bear and wolf preserve. Travel north to Bozeman, one of the most diverse small towns in the Rocky Mountains West, known for its clean air, moderate climate, and access to national forest and trails. Then it’s on to Butte with its vintage architecture, and colourful past for lunch. The day will end in Missoula, Montana, dubbed the “Garden City” and known as the states cultural center.

Day Ten: Missoula – Leavenworth, WA Meals: B, DDepart on a brief drive through Idaho to Coeur d’Alene for a lunch stop. After lunch the tour continues into Washington State past Spokane and onto Leavenworth for an overnight stay at the Bavarian Lodge.

Day Eleven: Leavenworth – Vancouver Meals: BAfter lunch depart from Leavenworth for Vancouver. The coach will make its way through the spectacular Cascade Mountain Range to the duty free shop en route to Vancouver.
