Year Four Celebration of

the year

Nurture – Our vision is to nurture all of our children, spiritually, morally, socially and culturally; and to celebrate our diversity. Our children are supported and challenged in their learning, in a safe and secure environment where positive relationships are modelled.

Grow – Children ‘grow’ through exposure to a progressive and exciting bespoke curriculum with a number of ‘wow days’ and trips in order to give our children excellent experiences that they will learn from and remember.

Achieve – We expect that during their time at Beech Hill, our children will achieve academically, socially and personally. Despite varied starting points, we expect our children to leave our school with many of the tools that will enable them to thrive in a 21st century society.

We encourage high standards from children throughout their time at Beech Hill. This might be expecting children to be active learners, present their books well or stretch themselves with new and adventurous vocabulary. In maths lessons, children

are given opportunities to challenge themselves by selecting the difficulty of the work they do. Problem solving provides children with opportunities to use the skills that they have learned.

In literacy lessons, the children have written a variety of different texts, for example narratives, information texts and poems. They learn about why we use different features in our writing.

Learning in Year Four

We show what we have learned in PSHCE in our scrapbooks.

In art lessons, the children learned about pop art and painted pictures in the style of Andy Warhol. They designed and created pantomime scenes linked to the book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.

In design and technology lessons, the children have designed and made alarms and green houses.

We have enjoyed being creative in art

lessons.

Learning in Year Four

Every day, we have reading lessons in school and we have book corners where the children have a variety of books to enjoy reading.

Reading

We work with parents/carers to support children with their reading.

We have enjoyed reading different

books, for example ‘How to Train Your

Dragon’.

Wow days

I enjoyed cutting the fish open and removing the guts

from the fish.

On the Spanish day, some of the children painted portraits in the style of Picasso and had an opportunity to have a Spanish themed lunch.

During science week, the children had a workshop where they had the opportunity to dissect fish.

During remote learning, the children created projects that compared Luton and the Lake District. Here are some of their projects and children’s work that was produced.

Remote learning

Homework

Here are some examples of projects that the children have created at home. There is a Roman bath and shield which were produced during our history topic about the Romans. There is an electric circuit that was produced during our science topic about electricity.

I have enjoyed the physical education

club. We have played dodgeball,

football and netball.

I have enjoyed maths lessons

because there are hard questions.

I enjoy physical education lessons because I like to

keep energetic and stay fit.
