Developing a SET plan for Senior

In Year 10 the school, student and their parents/carers work together on the

student’s Senior Education & Training (SET) Plan (or career plan).

Training for this takes place during Cert II Skills for Work and Vocational

Pathways.

The SET Plan:

• maps out what, where and how a student will study during their senior phase

of learning — usually Years 10, 11 and 12

• is agreed between student, their parents/carers and the school. (Mainly

during Term 3)

• is regularly reviewed to monitor progress.

Advice for selecting subjects in Year 10

It is important that students fully understand their subject choice. Never assume that you know all about a subject at a higher level because you have done that subject before. Do not base your choice on your likes or dislikes of particular teachers or students.

To investigate any subject:

ask the teachers of that subject – attend subject information night

look at the books and materials in that subject

read about the subject in this booklet

talk to other students who are doing or have done the subject (However, don't assume that because one student does or doesn't like a subject you will feel the same. All subjects are both liked and disliked by some students).

look at the subject programs which are available to both students and parents
