Year 9/GCSE English at Tor
Bridge Four lessons per week (1 hour lessons);
students are set according to their ability (end of KS3 results and GCSE target grades);
students follow a two year GCSE course to suit their ability:
English Language and English Literature;
English Only.
A linear course in which students will sit their exams in Summer 2015 (English Literature) and Summer 2016 (English Language) .

How we support our learners Small class sizes with supplementary staff
supporting the class teacher (e.g. Learning Support Assistants, Progress Managers etc.);
personalised learning tasks to stretch and challenge our most able learners;
a one-to-one tutor to provide students with additional support where necessary;
afterschool and lunchtime drop-in sessions;
extra-curricular activities: Carnegie Book Club, Debating Club, Creative Writing Club and Theatre trips;

How can I support my child’s
study of GCSE English? Reading and Writing
Quality newspapers (The Guardian, The Independent etc.) and magazines.
Novels, plays, poetry and non-fiction texts … ANYTHING! Encourage use of a wide range of vocabulary. 15 minutes a day makes a difference!
Speaking and Listening Discussing current affairs. Probing them for extended answers and additional detail.
