Welcome to the New Year 9 Camp Program
It’s your Choice!
Welcome to the Year 9 camp Program at O’Loughlin
Catholic College. What an exciting time ahead of you.
Your final year in Middle School before you transition
into your Senior Education. As you move through this
year our aim; through the Camp Program, is to
encourage you to explore a range of new and exciting
possibilities and give you the chance to take
responsibility for your camp choice.
For this reason, we are introducing the
‘Choice is Power’ program for our Year 9
students. They will have a choice of four
different camp experiences. Each camp gives
the students the chance to experience the
exhilaration of personal achievement, social
development, teambuilding skills and
increased confidence through involvement in
a journey of their choice- suited to them!
Students will experience the sights, smells
and sensations of activities and environments
very different from what they are used to, and
unique to each camp program.
All students will attend one of these camps. A
medical certificate is generally required for
any student unable to attend a camp.
Each camp is subsidised by the College and
the Year 9 Curriculum Fee that you pay.
However, in individual cases there will be an
additional levy to cover the significant and
unique travel components of our Interstate
and International camp options. See table on
following page for more levy details.
This handbook is designed to help you make
an informed choice about your camp program
in order to get the most out of this opportunity
and start planning your epic adventure in
Term 3.
I wish you well as you explore the new camp
possibilities and responsibilities that this
exciting year brings. Pack your spirit of
adventure and seize the opportunities that
await!

Please read this handbook carefully,
listen to advice and have conversations
with people who can help- your mentors,
your Teachers and, importantly, your
parents or carers.

Camp Expectations
Everyone is involved!
It is expected that all students will attend one of the four
camps on offer. All camps will run across Week 10 of
Term 3.
At O’Loughlin Catholic College, education is
more than just good grades, classroom
learning and qualifying for entry to university.
It is about teaching and shaping our students
to be well-rounded individuals that strive to be
the best person they can be, in all aspects of
their life.
School camps build resilience, social skills,
self-sufficiency and autonomy during a child’s
formative years. They are an integral part of
any student’s learning experience because
they can lead to improvements in:
- Self-esteem
- Independence & self-reliance
- Leadership
- Environmental awareness
- Decision-making & flexibility
- Relationships & teamwork
- Accountability
- Tolerance
- Responsibility
This is why the Year 9 Camp program is
compulsory. A medical certificate is generally
required for any student unable to attend a
camp.
All four of the camp choices are held across
the same week- Term 3 Week 10. This
means that no alternative program will be on
offer at school for Year 9 students as it is
expected that they will all be on camp in
various locations.
If you have any questions or concerns
regarding your child’s involvement in the
Camp Program, please contact the Camp Co-
ordinator to discuss in more detail.
