Parent Information Evening

Ash Wednesday – Lent - Project Compassion This coming Wednesday is Ash Wednesday: a significant day in the church calendar as it marks the beginning of Lent – the time leading up to Easter. As a school, we join parishioners for Mass in the church.

Ash Wednesday derives its name from the practice of blessing ashes made from palm branches blessed on the previous year's Palm Sunday, and placing them on the heads of participants.

Project Compassion is an opportunity for students to learn about life in different countries through the personal stories of people who have participated in Caritas Australia supported programs. By beginning to understand the issues of injustice and by witnessing the positive changes in the lives of people experiencing poverty, students can develop a deepening empathy and lifelong solidarity with people all around the world.

Caritas Australia’s investment in young people paves the way for “A Just Future” and allows us, in the words of Pope Francis to, “Cultivate with love the seeds of goodness, beauty and truth that God sows in every new generation.”

At Friday’s assembly we will look at a short video about our Lenten appeal for Project Compassion. The theme for Project Compassion 2018 is “For A Just Future”.

Students need to drink plenty of water throughout the day. The bubblers in the undercover area provide cooled and filtered water. Students are also encouraged to wear sunscreen.
