How do we calculate mean, median and mode? Mean: The mean is the average of the numbers. It is easy to calculate: add up all the numbers, then divide by how many numbers there are. E.G. If I asked for the mean age of Y5, we would add up the ages of all 31 children and 2 adults and then divide the answer by 33. Median: The median average is the middle number in a set of data, when the data has been written in ascending size order. If there is an even number of items of data, there will be two numbers in the middle. The median is the number that is half way between these two numbers. Mode: The number which appears most often in a set of numbers. Example: in {6, 3, 9, 6, 6, 5, 9, 3} the Mode is 6 (it occurs most often).

Work out the mean age of the England squad.

Work out the mode age of the England squad.

Work out the median age of the England squad.

What is the total age of the players in the England squad?

Work out the total age of the defence (not including GK).

Work out the total age of the midfield.

Work out the total age of the attack.

Day 1 Art & Design

Every Olympic games will have a mascot. The London 2012 mascots were called Much and Wenlock, after the village in Shropshire where people say the modern style Olympic games were held. I want you to design a mascot for a Fenton 2021. I have added a few examples of real mascots below. Don’t forget to post them onto Class Dojo when you’ve added the detail and colour.

Day 2 English

Today you are going to plan a story that will be written as a comic strip. This is about the Olympic mascot that you created yesterday. It must have a start, build up, problem (the Olympic torch is stolen by bad guys?) how the problem was solved and an ending. Use the plan below to think about the story layout. I have added a link to information that describes a similar event at the 1966 World Cup in England. https://www.fifa.com/worldcup/news/pickles-and-the-stolen-world-cup-2771152

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQjZagahHKU

Where is the comic strip set? (relates to Fenton 2021)

What is the mascot (hero) doing at the start of the strip?

What is the problem? (EG. Something stolen)

How does the mascot (hero) save the day?

How does the comic strip end?

Day 2 Science

We all know that when we exercise our heart beats more quickly and so will our PULSE. Today, you are going to do some work related to your pulse rate. This is the amount that your pulse beats. To do this you will need to spend some time practicing taking your pulse and recording how many times it beats in a minute. I have put some links below to help you to find and record your pulse rate. If your parent can help you then great! Task 1- practising taking your pulse and recording it. This may take a while but it is something that is a good way of focusing your body and mind. http://www.cyh.com/HealthTopics/HealthTopicDetailsKids.aspx?p=335&np=285&id=1467 https://www.google.com/search?q=taking+a+lulse+video&rlz=1C1DIMC_enGB805GB805&oq=taking+a+lulse+video&aqs=chrome..69i57j0.3549j1j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#kpvalbx=_shn_XsSdGv-f1fAPhIKciA030 Task 2- Checking for beats per minute (bpm)

Day 3 English Using your skills of writing and creating a comic book strip, I would like you to make an adventure based on your Olympic mascot. This may be that the Olympic torch is stolen and he needs to get it back or that someone has stolen the starting pistol and so the races can’t start. Use the storyboard below and the call outs to create your story. This will be continued tomorrow too.

Day 3 Computing

Using Google Earth, I would like you to investigate and look at the cities where that have hosted summer and winter Olympics. Using the Venn diagram below, compare locations. Choose one from the summer column and one from the winter column. Think about: physical geography (mountains, next to the sea etc), the human geography (are they large cities, small towns etc), where are the stadiums located in these destinations (in the middle of a city, the edge, miles from anywhere) I have listed some of the host cities below

Summer Winter Seoul, London, Sydney, Rio, Los Angeles Athens, Tokyo, Oslo, St Moritz, Calgary, Nagano, Salt Lake City,

Day 4 Maths

Use the table below to complete the tasks below.

GD- means goal difference. + means that a team has scored

more than have been scored against them. EG. If a team

scores 6 but 5 goals are scored against them, they will have a

GD of +1 etc.

1. Which team has scored more goals than have had

goals scored against them? How many more?

2. Which team scored nearly as many goals as had

scored against them?

3. What team have twice as many points as Norwich?

4. How many points did the top five teams achieve?

5. What is the difference between the points total of

the top half of the league and the bottom half of the

league?

6. There are two teams from Manchester: Man City and

Man Utd and two from Liverpool: Liverpool and

Everton.

Which city scored the most points?

What is the difference between the points total?

Draw a bar chart to show the GD of the top

half of the league

Continue your comic adventure on this page. Remember that you don’t need speech marks for speech, you use the speech bubbles instead. These can be drawn on your strip or cut out and stuck onto it.

Day 4 Science

Today you are going to record your heart rate and plot how long it takes it to reach your resting heart rate. Follow the instructions below and record your data on the attached table. You are then to plot the results on a line graph.

Record resting pulse rate, by counting pulse beats on the wrist for 1 minute (15 seconds and then multiply by four; 30 seconds and then double)

Run up and down or do star jumps for 2 minutes. Immediately record pulse rate again Rest for 1 minute. Record pulse rate again. Rest for 1 minute Record pulse rate again Repeat until resting pulse rate has been reached.

Day 5 Maths

The last day of the year!!!!!!!!!! Get yourselves onto TTRS and compete against each other. Post your results on Class Dojo. I will also set up a challenge against Y6 and the teachers. Day 5 PSHE/Mindfulness

In the box below- create a poster of what you want to achieve next year. This could be related to school or to activities that you complete outside of school. Make it big, bright and bold. You will need to bring this in when we return so that we can create a display around achieving goals.
