o Focus on readingo Worth 30% of total mark/ gradeo Students have to read 2 media texts and
answer 4 questions, which have different levels of difficulty
External exams: Module 2
o Focus on writingo Worth 30% of total mark/ gradeo Students have to write 2 non-fiction textso Spelling, punctuation and sentence
organisation are worth 1/3 of the total marks available on this paper
How to help your childo Keep an eye on the Programme of Study for the
year then you know what your child is studyingo Ensure that your child completes English
homework on time and to the highest standard he or she can
o Talk to your child about what they are studying in English and ask if you can support and/ or help them
o When we are focusing on exam preparation in school, use the shared reading and writing ideas to develop skills from lessons

Attendance leads to success!
Do you know the level of your child’s attendance? What does good attendance mean?
90% Attendance?1 School year at 90% attendance = 4 whole weeks of lessons missed!90% attendance over 5 school years = half a school year missed!!Research suggests that 17school days missed a year = 1 GCSE grade drop (DfE)The greater the attendance the greater the achievement.
Holidays• New government guidelines
• No authorisation will be given for holidays taken during term time.
Access to progress through Access to progress through PAW...PAW...
• Accompanying the termly reports is our online PAW (Parent Access Window) system.
• Allows parents to have ‘live’ access to attendance, behaviour and achievement information, assessment.
• Messages from the academy can be viewed.
