SECTION A: Design Process

Your secondary school shall be investing in new waste bins for the classrooms.
This change was needed to encourage students to make use of bins while also
increase recycling of material.
The school organized a design competition amongst its students to come up with
ideas of how one bin could contain both recyclable and general waste.

13. The teacher who will be using the mechanism needs the system to function on its own for a
period of time until the explanation is over. Figure C shows the timing circuit which will be
used.

14. The timing circuit will be connected to the input rotary motion circuit via a relay switch as
shown in Figure D.
a. The coil of the relay has an internal resistance of 100Ω. The output voltage coming from
Pin 3 is 12V.
i. Calculate the current needed for the relay to be energised. Show all your working.

SECTION E: Textiles
A bandana is a triangular or square piece of cloth which can be
tied around the head or neck for protective or decorative
purposes. A bandana can also be tied around the wrist to
absorb sweat during sport activities as shown in the pictures on
the left.
Your school is distributing the bandanas shown in Figure F
during an activity which promotes unity. These can be made
from natural or synthetic material with a printed pattern.
