Practice for Major Project commences: The students are introduced to idea of the controlled conditions exam theme question. They are set a theme and undertake a mock version of the NEA to familiarise them with the format and process they will need to follow when they undertake the real NEA the themes for which are issued in June 2019. Students produce relevant folio evidence using ICT, learning to create and submit a digital portfolio of coursework using power point software. A client is established, function and content is considered A justified specification is produced. [CAFEQUE]

9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 Practice for Major Project continues: The students undertake to engage with the iterative design process. They produce power point folio pages illustrating initial design concepts. The make a range of card models to demonstrate the potential feasibility of their designs as they progress. Rendering and communication skills are taught alongside the integrated use of technology to scan, import, draw and render concepts by and using CAD.

33 34 35 36 37 38 39 NEA Section A - Identify & investigate design possibilities. Students work to a contextual challenge that is issued by AQA exam board. They undertake detailed investigation and present their findings as part of a digital portfolio which is submitted in stages at key dates via the VLE. They consider the impact on society of the theme they are undertaking and investigating along with economic and social effects. This research informs the creation of a personal design brief which will evolve into a usable product.

GCSE NEA: Section B – Producing a design brief and specification. Students produce a comprehensive design brief which clearly justifies how they have considered their client’s user needs and wants and links directly to the context selected. Students produce a comprehensive justified design specification that allows them to fully understand the product they will be designing.

Year 10 Lifeskills

In Year 10 you will explore the qualities, attitudes and skills needed for employability how to further develop soft key skills to support your Experience of work in April. You will be tasked to recognise your strengths, achievements and weaknesses in Who Am I and required to evaluate how these might inform future choices in learning and work. Other familiar topics of finance will challenge problem solving and numeracy skills. You will learn about democracy and advocacy, about the roles and operation of civil and criminal law and the justice system, about how laws are made and shaped by people and processes including the work of parliament, government and the courts. You will be encouraged to take responsibility for your own health and wellbeing, to learn about work life balance and apply strategies for maintaining positive mental health including managing stress and anxiety. You will learn about health issues such as depression and disordered eating etc. and where to access support.

Further detail can be located in Unit overview sheets which begin each unit of work and will be stuck into exercise books at the beginning of topics, including the ASK trackers. There is a field trip to House of Commons in December.
