FEBRUARY 2014 EDITION

By now, we’ve pretty much heard every ‘super’ angle possible toplay off the title of the biggest mega-sports day of the year.Virtually every retailer airs commercials promoting ‘Super Deals,’restaurants with ‘Super Menus’ and automobile manufacturersboasting of ‘Super Savings.’

Sure, it’s Super Bowl Sunday, but if there is one word (other than‘super’) that defines this special day, it would be the word “most.”You probably already know that the Super Bowl is the mostwatched television broadcast of virtually every single year.Coupled with that, the advertising rates during the game are themost expensive commercials of the year. Here are a couple mostsyou might not know. Other than Thanksgiving, the United StatesGrocery Industry advises Super Bowl Sunday has the most foodconsumed per household than any other day of the year (whichyou could then deduce, people gain the most weight on SuperBowl Sunday than any other day!) It is also the day most selectedby companies to introduce or roll out new products or services—a concept first created by a fairly new company called Apple Inc.,when they selected the Super Bowl to introduce their new littleidea called the ‘Macintosh computer’ back in 1984.

So what can we learn from all those mosts? Super Sunday is oneof the most opportunistic days to invite a friend or loved one tochurch with you! Especially when it’s 3BC’s High AttendanceDay—the Sunday we try to get the most people possible to comeworship and fellowship with us. Dear 3BC Family,

In July of each year, NFL teamsconvene for practice for theupcoming season. All 32 teams begintheir year with the same goal. Everyteam is striving to reach and win theSuper Bowl (I’m not sure I can saySuper Bowl without legalramifications from the NFL but I’mgoing to chance it.)

The Super Bowl (oops I said it again)is Sunday February 2, 2014, in NewYork City. Fans will converge on NewYork to watch the game, party, andhopefully celebrate their team’svictory in this historic and iconiccompetition.

On the same day here at 3BC, we willdo many of the same things as wecelebrate a Super Sunday. While allSundays are super, this one will haveextra elements from our normalroutine. Just like the Super Bowl inNew York, we will converge, party, and celebrate. There will also be ahistoric and iconic competitionbetween teams of LIFE Group classes. Each LIFE Group has been placed ona team led by a 3BC staff member orcoach. The Yellow Team will becoached by Duane Geib, The BlueTeam will be coached by AdamLickey, The Green Team will becoached by Karen Jones, The Orange

Team will be coached by SteveHutson, and the Red Team will becoached by defending Super SundayChampion Marty Blakely.

The overall goals are to have 625 forworship and 600 in LIFE Groups onSuper Sunday. The team completionwill be decided by how many peopleeach team has in LIFE Group withbonus points being awarded forguests present in each class. TheTeam with the most points will becrowned Super Sunday Champions ofthe World, ok maybe not of the worldbut definitely for 3BC.

After all this competition on Sundaymorning, we will then have a time tocelebrate with Super Bowl HomeFellowships hosted by LIFE Group

classes. The Fellowships will begin at 5:00 p.m. and childcare for agesbirth through 5th grade begins at the church at 4:30 p.m. and ends at9:00 p.m.

Host homes are listed on page 4 ofthis newsletter, as well as in theWorship Guide and on our website atwww.3BConline.com.

I hope to see you on Super SundayFebruary 2, as we Converge,Compete, Fellowship, and mostimportantly Celebrate our Lord andSavior Jesus Christ.

In Him,

Marty BlakelyMarty BlakelySenior Associate Pastor

Seniors EnjoyCumberland PlayhouseTuesday, February 25It’s another great day trip for 3BC SeniorAdults to the Cumberland CountyPlayhouse on Tuesday, February 25. Thismonth’s play is The Dixie Swim Club, astory of five unforgettable women’shilarious and touching tale about theirfriendships that last forever. As their livesunfold and the years pass, the womenincreasingly rely on one another, throughadvice and raucous repartee, to getthrough the challenges that life flings atthem. Plan on leaving the church at 8:15a.m. to see this hilarious performance andreturning by 5:00 p.m. The cost is $30 perperson plus lunch, which covers the costof admission and transportation.

ETC Lunch & Learn Sunday, February 9 Our Extended Teaching Care ministry isone of our most important ministries whenit comes to reaching new families. For anynew family visiting 3BC, our ETC workerswill be some of the first people they meet.Parents of babies, toddlers, and preschoolerstend to be apprehensive about leaving theirchild in someone else’s care. That is why itis imperative that our ETC ministry becharacterized by excellence. Since thosewho serve in ETC typically only serve 4 – 8times per year, it is difficult to communicateexpectations and procedures. For that reason,we are planning an Extended Teaching CareLunch and Learn on Sunday, February 9from 12:00 until 1:30 p.m. All those whoserve on our ETC Rotation, or those wishingto get involved, and their families are invitedto attend this luncheon where we willprovide training. Lunch and childcare willbe provided. Please make reservations inLIFE Group, at the information center, orcall the church office.

The Great Mystery of the Teal RibbonsWondering why so many people arewearing teal ribbons on Sunday mornings? Are people preparing for St. Patrick’s Daya little early, and ordered the wrong colorribbons? Could they be part of a new 3BCclub? Do they get special parkingprivileges? The suspense is growing as thenumbers of teal ribbons continue toexpand. Everybody loves to solve amystery, and there’s only one way to findthe answer to this ongoing churchcuriosity—by coming to worship onSunday morning, February 2.
