Learning together – Empowered for life.

Dear Parents

On Saturday 7th July we had the pleasure of welcoming back ex-students and staff for the ’Trip down memory lane’ which was hosted as part of our Golden Jubilee celebrations. A great time was had by all with reminiscences galore and it was wonderful to see faces from across the years,

including some 1968 originals. My sincere thanks to the organising committee for masterminding and working so hard on this super occasion. Lower School Production

On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week (with a dress rehearsal on Monday for residents of Hampshire Lakes), we have thoroughly enjoyed the Lower School Production – the first for many years. Miss and Mrs Parish, a formidable Mother and Daughter team led our talented young group of cast and crew to major success in a charming and highly entertaining show. The acting was superb, as was the backstage and stage management elements. A treat for all involved and hopefully an event that we can come back to in the future.

Sports Personality Evening Our audience on Thursday evening were treated to an exceptional evening of entertainment and achievement. It was such a pleasure to be in a school with such a vast amount of sporting talent and variety of achievement. Despite my woeful attempts at circus skills in the middle, the evening was all about high level accomplishment and also, importantly about sportsmanship and team play. It was overwhelmingly obvious how successful we are because we support each other so closely. Our amazing PE team hosted a great evening, and more importantly supported the teams with passion and tenacity throughout the year. Well done all. Our Year 10s and a number of the Sixth Form will be out on Work Experience next week, so we wish them well with this vitally important step into their next steps in life and developing the resilience and acceptance of change that will equip them for success in later life. It is a proud boast that we can still support Work Experience and will be celebrating the Year 10s’ achievements in a special assembly this afternoon.

Student star of the week Eva Chater has been training and playing for the Wasps Netball

Superleague team with her sights set on the England team. This is an

amazing achievement and we wish you well for your future success.

Eva is also involved in lots of other sports activity at school and has

represented Darwin House in the House Netball, Basketball and

Swimming. Her sporting achievements do not stop there, as she also

participated in the District Sports 800m, Javelin and Rounders.

Yours sincerely P German Headteacher

SPORTS RESULTS:

Adam Dart Adam, who has formerly been student of the week competed in the World Duathlon sprint distance Championships in Odesne, Denmark at the weekend. As many people aren't aware what Duathlon is, it consists of running 5km, cycling 20km jumping off the bike and running again, 2.5km. In a very competitive field in his age group 16-U20 Adam finished 7th, (4th GB athlete). Adam has been competing in Duathlon and Triathlon for about 4 years, and this really was his dream come true! Next aim - to finish in the top 3! An outstanding achievement.

Cricket Hampshire Plate Final v St. Georges - won by 8 wickets. St. Georges - 79 all out Bowling: Alfie Pepper 3 for 15, Tom Holden 3 for 16 Yateley - 80 for 2 off 11 overs Batting: Jonny Saunders 22 runs not out, Cameron George 16 runs, Jamie Tidbury 15 runs Well done boys on a fantastic achievement, Hampshire Plate Champions, emulating the success of last season. Looking forward to next year.

Mr. Hutton, PE Department Celebrating success at Hampshire County Junior Athletics:

On Tuesday 10th July, we had students representing Aldershot & District at the Hampshire Junior County Track & Field Championships which were held at Southampton Sport Complex. We were fortunate enough, after a successful Junior Districts, to have seven of our students selected to be part of the District team. Well done to all of you that received an invitation, this is a huge achievement within its self. However, on the day, Yateley School had some impressive highlights. Harry Ware became County Champion in 800m. 2nd places went to Ed Webb in Discus and Taylor Wood in Triple Jump, 3rd places to April Ellis in Javelin and Adam Elder in Long Jump. We also had great performances from our year 7's, Sophie-Ella Tzanetis in Long Jump and Jacob Sealey in Shot, we are looking forward to unwrapping further potential next year.

Aldershot District won the U13B & U14G team trophies & were placed second, I believe, in the U13G & U14B. We won the Division 1 aggregate of all 4 teams & were placed second in the overall relay shield competition.

Reunion Disco

The reunion cream tea was a great success. Now there is the opportunity to

renew more friendships at the reunion disco at Bistro 19 on 20 July. Tickets can

be purchased at www.yateleyschool.net/jubilee/ Partners welcome.

Birthday Raffle

Each student in the school has been asked to bring a book of raffle tickets home. You will see the

great prizes written on the ticket. Raffle tickets are in books of five at £1 a ticket. If you are able to

sell tickets amongst your family or friends the stubs and money should be put in a sealed envelope

and put in the box in the Finance Office. Of course, there is no obligation to buy and if you do not

wish, or feel you cannot, buy or sell any tickets, please ask your youngster just to return the book to

reception. However, with every student and every member of staff being asked to sell five tickets at

£1, the raffle has the potential to raise a lot of money for the birthday fund raising – to go towards the refurbishment

of the student toilets. This was a very popular choice when put to the School Council. And if you know nothing about

this please have a search in your child’s bag! There is only a week left of term so we need their responses quickly!
