To all prospective Yale ballplayers-
Since its first game against Wesleyan College in September of 1865, Yale Baseball has enjoyed an abundance of success both on and off the playing field. Along with providing our ballplayers with a world class education, the success we take the greatest pride in is our ability to help players capture theirsuccess we take the greatest pride in is our ability to help players capture their dreams of playing professional baseball. Since John Stuper took over as Yale’s Head Baseball Coach in 1993, no other Ivy League school has had more players sign professional contracts than Yale University. This document highlights Yale Baseball’s long tradition of sending its players on to the nexthighlights Yale Baseball s long tradition of sending its players on to the next level- a trend we hope future ballplayers strive to maintain.
In our opinion, the best of both worlds exists here at Yale University- an p yeducation second to none, an opportunity to play a hard-nosed brand of baseball within the Ivy League, and a long-standing tradition of players reaching the highest level of baseball. We continue to look forward to identifying the nation’s top student-athletes, and joining them on their baseball y g p j gjourneys at the college level and beyond…

MLB PLAYING CAREER J h St it h d i th j l fJohn Stuper pitched in the major leagues for the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds
from 1982-85, appearing in a total of 111 games.
He posted a 32 28 overall record with a 3 96He posted a 32-28 overall record with a 3.96 earned run average.
His most memorable performance came with the Cardinals in the sixth game of the 1982
World Series. With St. Louis trailing theWorld Series. With St. Louis trailing the Milwaukee Brewers, three games to two in the best-of-seven series, the right-hander
helped the Cardinals even the series with a 13-1 complete-game, four-hit victory. St.
Louis went on to win the Series the following dayday.
Sports Illustrated listed his World Series performance among the 10 best by a rookie
pitcher in the history of postseason play.
35 Yale Baseball Players have signed professional contracts during Stuper’s tenure. Over those 20 years, Yale has had more players drafted than any other Ivy School.
