Why are there changes to
GCSE?“By making GCSEs more demanding, more fulfilling, and more stretching we can give our young people the broad, deep and balanced education which will equip them to win in the global race,”
“Reformed GCSEs must prioritise stretching assessment, which truly tests the depth and breadth of pupils' knowledge and abilities. Examinations must test extended writing in subjects such as English, have fewer bite-sized and overly structured questions , and in mathematics have a greater emphasis on quantitative problem-solving.”
“Internal assessment and the use of exam aids should be kept to a minimum and used only where there is a compelling case to do so , to provide for effective and deep assessment of the specified curriculum content.”
