Panning for Gold One great way to raise money for the renovations is to collect Gold and Sil-ver and other precious metals. Gold is now worth $1280 per troy ounce (ozt) and silver is $15 per ozt. Perhaps you have that mangled chain or the wid-owed earring, donate it to the renovation. Maybe you have some sterling silverware pieces, an old ring or silver coins that just doesn't fit your style or are just taking up space in the draw-er, donate it. I can take it to a reputable dealer and get top dollar. It’s a painless way of giving and it really goes to a good cause. Simply bring your old gold, silver and coins to the rectory or after Mass give it to me. I can write a receipt for tax purposes if you like.

Thank you for your consideration, Fr. Paul.

What is more delightful than the voice of the Lord calling to us? —St. Benedict

Dear Parents of Faith, The State of NJ passed a law this spring which will take ef-fect for the 2020-2021 school year that requires the contributions of LGBTQ persons be included in the educational curriculum of public schools and you as parents are not allowed to opt your children out of this new curriculum as it will be so interwoven into the general curriculum that it would be nearly impossible to even opt them out. The powers that be (our governor, our law makers, the Gar-den State Equality, and the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network) have decided that the contributions of LGBTQ people must be acknowledged in public school education. Ever since the state has taken away the rights of parents and the local com-munity to educate their children, parents have lost more and more of their rights to educate their children as they see fit. The state would not allow vouchers for Catholic schools and so we had to close them. Once again taking the parents’ right to choose away from them. You as the primary educators of your children are now told to shut up and listen because the Gay community and your elected officials like Valerie Vainieri Huttle* know what is best for your children. Frances Cogelja, an elected member of the Board of Education for Hackensack has objected to this imposed curricu-lum but she is roundly shouted down with calls to resign. It seems that bullying and loud voices reign in the public dis-course. Just because someone is saying something long enough and loud enough neither makes it good nor true. Concerned Catholic parents, you must get involved. When you were married you vowed to educate your children, especial-ly in the faith. But when the state claims the right to educate your children as it sees fit, it has coopted your rights, for this new curriculum goes against our Catholic faith by indoctrinating our children in a way of life that is contrary to Catholic doctrine. Our US tradition is that individual states provide an education to every child but it does not say that the state must dictate what that education is; that was usually left to the local community and families to decide. By the way whatever happened to read-ing, writing and arithmetic? Many of our students are lacking in these skills but it seems the elite are more concerned with their social agenda rather than the elementary needs of our children. Parents take back your rights as parents, as mothers and fathers of the children you have brought into the world and love. The days where the state dictates all aspects of education sounds much like the days of the Soviet Union and the re-education camps of present day China. While we know that many people of varying backgrounds have contributed to the sciences and liberal arts, let’s be sure that their life-styles are not pertinent to their contributions. Did you ever hear: Thomas Jefferson, a heterosexual with his many slave concubines, wrote the Declaration of Independence? No, it would be age inappropriate. As much as Jefferson was an adul-terer, a child does not and should not know this. So why should a child be subjected to, Alan Turing, a British homosexual and openly gay man, was the father of the computer? Parents take back your responsibility and be fathers and mothers of your children before all, even your children’s faith, are given up to the state.

Pax Christi, Fr. Paul *Assemblywoman Valerie Vainieri Huttle, D-Englewood, one of the primary sponsors of the legislation, said opting out was not part of the law, nor should it be. "Our children should not be able to 'opt-out' of LGBT history," she said in a statement. "They should not be allowed to 'opt-out' of lessons surrounding acceptance and equality. Providing parents with the option to remove their children from these lessons would only dilute the critical progress that we have and will continue to make through this law.”

NFP Awareness Week July 21–27, 2019

“Love, Naturally!” is the theme of this year’s Natural Family Planning Awareness Week, a national educational campaign of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to celebrate God’s design for married love and the gift of life and to raise awareness of Natural Family Planning (NFP) methods. “NFP,” as the U.S. bishops have written, is supportive of Catho-lic beliefs about married love because it “respects the God-given power to love a new human life into being” (see, U.S. Bishops, Married Love and the Gift of Life). The dates of Natural Family Planning Awareness Week (July 21–27, 2019) annually highlight the anniversary of Humanae vitae (July 25) as well as the feast of Saints Joachim and Anne (July 26), the parents of the Blessed Mother. Resources (e.g., the NFP Week poster, web banners, prayers, homily notes, bulletin inserts, etc.) and ideas for celebrating and promoting NFP Awareness Week in your area can be found on the USCCB’s NFP Program website: http://www.usccb.org/nfp/awareness-week/index.cfm. For more information, contact [email protected]. TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION It’s high summer now, school is out, the pace of work slows, and some people drift away. There are visitors in the churches every summer, and familiar faces are “among the missing.” Some find the summer’s call more appealing than the summons of the church bells. Many, however, would not dream of missing a Sunday, and so they make their way to Mass in unfamiliar places, watching the locals for clues as to when to sit or stand, where the Communion stations are. In answering the call, they keep the “sabbatical” rhythm of the Christian life: every seventh day, the Body of Christ assembles for worship. For centuries, there was no obligation to Sunday Mass in the sense of a written law, but Christians have always yearned to be together on Sunday. In the city of Abitina, during a perse-cution by the Emperor Diocletian, a group of Christians were urged to stop worshiping together on Sundays. They responded, “Then take our lives, for without the Sunday we cannot live.” By a curious coincidence, the appointed readings today center us on thoughts of peace. On our Independence Day, the experi-ence of worship situated us in community, and evoked a com-mitment from us to be advocates of peace in all aspects of our society’s life.

Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz,
