Changes to P2 Assessment in 2019
• No weighted Assessment
• On-going Formative Assessments • Progress Reports using Learning Outcomes
with Qualitative Descriptors • E.g.
LO 2: Read aloud Primary 3 texts with accuracy, fluency
and expression to convey meaning and understanding.
LO 3: Plan and write a narrative with appropriately
sequenced events and details.
• Have more time and space to deepen their learning, especially
in the transition years (i.e. P3, P5, S1 and S3).
• Better enjoy the process of learning and develop dispositions for
lifelong learning.
Changes aim to help our students:
Learn for Life
“Let us prepare every child for the test of life, and not just
a life of tests”

Preparing our
students for life: Our
School Values
• Learn for Life as an important
value, attitude
and skill.
• Even with the removal of mid-year
examinations for some levels,
teachers will continue to assess their students.
• Parents will be kept informed of the
child's progress.
How will I know about my child’s progress?
Will my child be
ready for national
examinations?
• Even with the removal of mid-year
examinations for
some levels, the
number of examinations to
assess learning is still adequate.
Which assessments would be counted?
How are the various assessments weighted?
• Assessment serves to support students’ learning, gauge their
progress, and address learning gaps.
• There will still be assessment (class tests, projects,
presentations), and these are no different from current
practices.
How will my child’s academic progress be
measured if there are completely no
examinations and weighted assessments at
P1 and P2?
• Current practices to gather information about students’ learning
through checkpoints (e.g. class discussions, in-class work,
homework, and bite-sized tests) will continue.
• The change is that these checkpoints will no longer count towards
an overall result.
• Use of qualitative descriptors instead of marks and grades to report
students’ learning progress in the report book (Holistic Development
Profile).
How will we allocate classes for Primary 3?
• When progressing to P3, students will no longer be assigned classes based solely on academic ability.
• When progressing to P3, students will no longer be assigned classes based solely on academic ability.
• We will focus on having differentiated approaches to better to the different learning needs of students
• Stretching Programmes to suitably Challenge the HP learners
• Customised Programmes (Pull-out Programmes) to provide more support to students with higher learning needs
• Recognition has also taken a shift from norm-based to criterion-based to reduce comparison amongst students and encourage students to aspire towards greater mastery for their learning
How will my child
be selected for
Edusave
Academic
Awards?
Considers positive learning dispositions
instead of academic performance.
Edusave Merit Bursary: P1 and P2 students who display positive learning
dispositions consistently.
Good Progress Award: P2 and P3
students who have made significant improvement in learning dispositions.
