The place in red on the map of China is called GanSu, it is the place where I was born. The image on the left is called Yao Dong or "cave house" is a particular form of earth shelter dwelling common in the Loess Plateau in Chinas north. They are generally carved out of a hillside or excavated horizontally from a central "sunken courtyard.The earth that surrounds the indoor space serves as an effective insulator keeping the inside of the structure warm in cold seasons and cool in hot seasons. Consequently, very little heating is required in winter, and in summer, it is as cool as an air-conditioned room.The history of yaodongs goes back centuries, and they continue to be used.2My Country Life

I lived with my grandparents in countryside in GanSu before going to college. When I turned to 6 years old, I started helping with house chores, such as cooking meals, taking care of my sick grandma, taking cows to get water in a river, Huang Huang who is in the picture, was my best friend in my childhood, and I took her to everywhere I went. We spent 15 years together and she understood me so well. Sadly, she died when I was away from home. 3This is the story my husband would tell our kids how I met my your mother
