DESCRIPTION

xHealth is a healthcare platform. One of the business processes implemented on the platform is Counterfeit Drugs Checker. Counterfeit Drugs Checker aims at countering proliferation of counterfeit drugs by putting the power to report potential counterfeit drugs in the user's hands. A general public user or a healthcare personnel can use the application to check the legitimacy of a drug. Additionally, a general public user can report any side effects suffered as a result of using the drug. The data collected from such reports would be shared with the drug manufacturers and other stakeholders to improve drug safety and to rid the general public of ineffective drugs. Interaction with the platform is via SMS, IVR, Voice and mobile app. This work is a combined effort of Okello Nelson, Chen Chengkuan, Siu Len, Hai Liang Gao and Nicole Yap.

[email protected], Its not possible to pinpoint if it was caused by the drug if the incident is isolated. If, however, there are over 1000 incidents reported related to the same drug, then I think it can be concluded that it's possible that the reported condition could have been caused by something to do with the drug. As part of the pharmacovigillance component, we can include a check that uses artificial neural networks. This can improve its categorization the more its used. The same technique used in Fraud Detection. To conform to law or to not find ourselves on the wrong side of the law, instead of reporting that the drug was ineffective, we can find some other way of reporting the same.
Sally Ho
Pharmacovigilance systems relies largely on patient/ professional reporting events such as headache, skin rash, stomach discomfort etc, it is a way to capture post marketing real world side effects profiles, but of course, how do you know it is attributed to the drug, we dont know exactly... but is more like a surveillance system... hoping the bigger the sample size the more generalisable your data will be
Okello Nelson
I agree, [email protected] is a better solution. Is it possible to incorporate a short design of the pharmacovigillance component, then we'll discuss how it can fit in the presentation, to replace this?
Sally Ho
as mentioned the best would be a pharmacovigilance system to document adverse reactions then maybe questionnaire to asked how they found it swallowing the tablets? any issue/ barriers to stop them taking? It all depends if you want to look at the clinical function or more the administration of the meds themselves
Okello Nelson
It may be a wrong choice of term, but what I'm proposing is a way to get some feedback from the user after using a drug. As pointed out, a drug might not have been effective for a number of reasons, thus it may not be a proof of the drug being counterfeit. Like said, probably due to the user's own reaction to the chemical substances that are part of the drug. Any suggestion on how we can collect post-drug use experience?

[email protected] +Chen That's true. There's a need for segmentation. In Kenya, the situation is the same; needs of urban dwellers and their rural counterparts are radically different. Any ideas on how to implement this segmentation?
Sally Ho
I am no goo at geography, so you need to bear with me...I would first indicate areas that you would like to roll out this application, for example, the city/ town where you live, then maybe work by km radius, to identify rural areas..... Do any of you know have to use GIS? is a statistical mapping tool used in outbreaks.Rurality is difficult to determine there isn't a definition either. We would have to set that definition
Sally Ho
for this one maybe we need to segment the users so we can be more specific in the service we want to provide?
kuan chen
I think it's good idea to segment users. Maybe segment in the following categories:Patient, health care provider, doctors and third party(gov.NGO)?
Sally Ho
I am thinking more about segmenting the patients further into, urban, para urban, rural because their access to healthcare needs are different I believe, Nelson will have to advise on the situation in Kenya

xHealth Find Doctor filters doctors by location of the user, specified specialty, and schedule availability

Sally Ho
so we need to GIS map the clinic facilities? how about also access for people that cannot travel?
kuan chen
I think so. it might not be difficult to trace the people's location with internet. Do people here mean doctor (or patient). If it mean doctor, then I think just find another one who can travel, if it means patient, the doctor could visit them
Sally Ho
Thats what I meant, the patients if the nearest dr is 10 miles away? what should they do?

[email protected] +chen I've implemented some changes. Please have a look. Is that what you had in mind?
Sally Ho
This is better I think, because you could give them an option to choose what they need, of course this is providing the assumption that people know what they need.
Sally Ho
How about if they dont need a Dr? all they need is another healthcare professional?
kuan chen
I think maybe it would be better here to say healthcare provider pool? (Doctor, health care provider...)

After a user has been attended to by a doctor, he can review and rate the doctor’s services. This will be used to recommend doctors to future patients
