Course Requirements and Expectations Please come to all your classes and come on time!

You must come to the first two classes of the term. If you cannot come, you should call the office or talk to your teacher. If you don’t, you may be dropped from the class.

Do not miss more than 2 or 3 classes. You need to attend 75% of all classes. If you miss 25% of classes, you may be dropped from the class. If you miss a class, you are still expected to do the homework for that night. If you are absent, you should ask the teacher or another student about the homework assignment. If you miss too many classes or if you do not do enough homework, you will be put on probation for the next term. If you do not meet expectations during the probation term, you may be dropped from the ESL program or referred to another English program.

If your work or family situation changes during the term and you can’t come to class 80% of the time, you must tell the teacher. The teacher might recommend that you “Stop out” for the term. You can come back in a later term when your schedule is better.

Do your homework!

Homework assignments are part of this class. Homework is important if you want to make progress and move to a higher class. You must do your homework! Your teacher will keep a record of which students do homework assignments and which students do not do homework assignments. At the end of term, this will be an important part of your teacher’s decision about whether you are ready to move to a higher class. Only students who do homework can move up to higher classes. If you do not do enough homework, you may not be able to continue to take ESL classes here at Chemeketa.

Be an active student in class!

In class, use English! Bring a notebook, pens, pencils, and an eraser. There are a lot of pairwork and groupwork activities in this class. Be friendly and polite with other students. Ask questions if you don’t understand what is happening. Be an active student! Participate actively in group activities. Talk! Talk! Talk! Have fun! This is your class, so if you have any problems, ideas, or questions, just talk to your teacher!
