How  quickly  does  the  time  turn  around  -‐  we  are  already  for  the  opening  of  the

2014  Tattersall’s  Club  Landscape  Art  Prize  and  Queensland  Exhibition

When  the  invitation  to  exhibit  a  piece  of  work  inspired  by  Qld,  this  little  gully  came  to  mind!

Tattersall’s  Landscape  Art  Prize  And

Queensland  Exhibition  2014  Opened  Wednesday  3rd  September

Tattersall’s  Club  –  Queen  Street  –  Brisbane  -‐  Qld

The  work  this  year  from  Studio@Vantage  is  –  water  colour  on  300  G/M2  –  Arches  cold  pressed  rag  paper  –  fully  framed  ready  for  hanging.

`Up  The  Creek’  is  70  x  70cm  square  and  `Out  To  Sea’  is  70  x  100cm  –  the  both  pieces  are  designed  to  sit  together  –  so  allowing  the  full  story  to  flow  from  start  to  finish.

The  Ghosts  of  Stumer’s  Creek  have  been  calling  –  this  small  gully  crosses  the  main  road  into  town,  and  every  time  I  cross  it  I  am  determined  to  explore!

Very  early  one  morning,  camera  and  sketch  block  in  tow  I  headed  out  –  it  was  starting  to  rain  but  this  didn’t  deter.    I  was  later  to  learn  that  this  small  gully  has  had  many  lives  and  the  local  Maroochy  Water  Watch  Inc  –  our  local  Catchment  Management  Group  have  been  managing  and  working  hard  to  keep  the  health  of  the  gully  up  to  scratch.

Later  in  the  day,  I  drove  down  and  wandered  the  other  end  of  the  gully  –  where  the  waters  bubble  across  the  sand  and  move  out  to  sea.    The  history  associated  with  the  area  was  a  story  driven  by  one  of  our  early  settlers  –  Carl  Stumer!    For  the  full  history  of  how  he  came  to  survey  this  area  and  submit  the  naming  rights,  head  to  the  Blog  >      http://wynvogel.blogspot.com/2014/09/tattersalls-‐club-‐landscape-‐art-‐prize.html      Enquiries  to:  Ann-‐Louise  Hollett-‐Smith

Exhibition  Opens  To  the  Public

Waterfront  Place  No  1  Eagle  Street  –  Brisbane  8th  to  the  19th  September  2014

What  other  Exhibitions  are  on  the  way?  St  Vincent’s  Private  Hospital  Brisbane  -‐  Art  Program  2014

Moves  into  the  second  half  year  of  Exhibition  on  the  8th  September  `14

Gone  Surfing  The  ultimate  freedom  –  this  work  has  also  seeded  an  installation  which  includes  actual  pieces  of  paddle  boards  donated  by  Surf  FX  –  South  Port  Qld  (organised  via  AusWind  –  distributors  of  Starboard  SUP  –  Stand  Up  Paddle  Boards  in  Australia)  so  thanks  to  these  guys  –  and  also  Mitre  10  Coolum  Beach  who  have  helped  me  with  the  build  of  the  installation.

Backyard  Games  We  all  have  old  sheds  in  our  backyards  and  the  games  that  go  on  in  and  out  of  the  shed  probably  are  fabled  and  should  stay  with  our  childhood  and  teenage  dreams  –  My  old  RM  Williams  boots  formed  a  valuable  prop  for  this  work!

Match  Play  Princess  Diana  never  stood  a  chance  –  what  goes  on  when  the  silks  and  boots  are  off?

A  fine  silk  and  boots  I  have  to  say!!

A  Gentleman’s  Game  The  bat  and  ball  is  modeled  on  those  of  WG  Grace  –  history  is  represented  in  the  books!

How  did  corruption  creep  into  the  game  was  it  as  simple  as  naughts  and  crosses?

Fore  Play  This  is  probably  the  most  feminine  piece  in  the  Series  -‐    however  regardless  of  gender  how  precious  are  the  ‘Games  We  Play’

A  tongue  in  cheek  look  what  the  stork  will  bring!

The  St  Vincent’s  Hospital  –  is  looking  to  establish  leading  edge  clinical  and  pain  management  facilities  to  Queensland  and  beyond.

Earlier  this  year  the  Hospital  launched  a  major  Art  Program  under  the  watchful  eye  of  Fiona  Forrest.

Fiona  has  returned  after  many  years  working  with  the  arts  in  England  –  including  the  Arts  Council  and  theatre  groups  based  in  London.

With  an  experienced  eye  –  Fiona  has  harnessed  a  number  of  artists  who  previously  have  not  hung  together  and  so  this  fresh  approach  has  brightened  the  halls  and  corridors  –  the  public  and  private  spaces  of  the  Hospital,  enriching  the  lives  of  both  patients  and  staff  over  the  last  six  months.
