The Game of the CenturyThe Game of the Century

The Game of the Century is a full 9-inning baseball game played by former African American and Latino Major League Baseball

players and Hall of Famers who honor the Old Negro League players some of whom will be present at the celebration.

1947Jackie Robinson joins the Brooklyn Dodgers and becomes the first black player in Major League Baseball during the modern era; Robinson wins the National League Rookie of The Year Award.

The Black Baseball Players Association and The Remembering When Foundation will host the Game of the Century II during the

summer of 2008 and celebrate the 6oth Anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier for baseball.

The mission of the Black Baseball Players Association is to celebrate the past, inspire the present and empower the future by honoring the

achievements that African Americans have made to the American history of baseball. By promoting self-awareness and self-worth, we teach

adults and children how to aim for success in their lives and the communities in which they live.

The mission of the Remembering When Foundation is to honor the past for the achievements of today while connecting generations through

academics and athletics.

Students from elementary to high school ages receive athletic training, African American history lessons and appropriate academic

encouragement from former and current professional athletes when they attend clinics, extended camps and other events sponsored through the

Foundation at no cost. The Remembering When Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, is committed to serving all humankind especially underrepresented backgrounds, cultures and low-income communities.

The ModelThe Model

Remembering When Foundation is an innovative 501(c)(3) non-profit entity dedicated to designing special programs and events centered

around the game of baseball to bring awareness to the community by highlighting the African American heroes of baseball. This is a unique way to address social consciousness and to perpetuate change in such a way that helps communities to rejoice in who we are and have pride in the accomplishments of those that helped shape our nation’s pastime,

thereby bringing together our nation as a whole. This task calls upon the strengths of community partners to affect change where other models

have failed.

Black Baseball Players Association will host The Game of the Century II in the Summer of 2008.

The Game of the Century is more than just a baseball game. It is the culmination of events that include community outreach

activities, in-school programs, free baseball clinics and other events that will assist in educating our youth about the Negro

Leagues.

Fans are encouraged to attend the games dressed in period clothing – fedoras, pin-stripes and vintage dresses.

Fans will enjoy the sounds of big band music, words from notable black personalities in the sports, politics and the entertainment industry. The Buffalo Soldiers will present the colors, and the Tuskegee Airmen will perform a fly-

over to pay homage to the honorees.
