Fleet 35 Marquette, Michigan Lake Superior, 1978

Fleet Captain: Ted Raymond SecretaryiTreasurer: Dave Manson

Marquette Fleet 35 continues to grow, and we had another great year on Lake Superior. Seventeen different boats raced, with between fourteen and sixteen boats in each race. We got in thirteen races out of fourteen scheduled, as one was cancelled due to lack of wind . The non-race was still time well spent, as several boats elected to hold man overboard drills and enjoy other water sports. Competition was keen at the top of the standings and also at different spots lower down, making the season fun for all. Zeb Seaborg in eh? kept his title, and AI Raymond in Heelin' Lassie was happy to beat at least one boat in the races he was able to make.

We had several special events throughout the year. The 19th annual Bill Neumann Regatta was a wild affair, with winds on the first day "about" 25 kts, and the second day a bit less. Seven boats participated, the top spot was won by a small margin, and by happy chance Colin Irish was holding his famous pig roast , making for a fantastic after race party. Other events included the equally wild open class White Rocks Race, the 41h of July Race , a Kids Race, the Rotary Sailaway, and a Celebrity Race. This last consisted of local notables being treated to a talk on racing followed by an actual race which in turn was followed by a potluck at the club. A good time was had by all , and with any luck somebody will buy the extra Ensign acquired by Phil Lutey and Zeb Seaborg .

We look forward to 2010, particularly since we'll be hosting the Region V Championship Regatta on August 6 - 8. Check us out at www.marquetteyachtclub.com. and make it up here for some great racing!
