TOP 10 THINGS TO DO:

GREATER BRISBANE REGIONThe region includes Brisbane city and its many urban villages, the pristine marine environment of Moreton Bay and Islands as well as the rural surrounds of the Scenic Rim and Country Valleys.

Across the region we boast a diverse variety of experiences making Brisbane the perfect hub in southern Queensland to explore for day touring and self-drive adventures.

Don’t Miss —1. Enjoy fish and chips along the waterfront at Redcliffe or Bribie Island. Often it’s the simple and inexpensive

things in life that are the best. Why not enjoy the region’s stunning beaches and parks as well as the ocean’s fresh seafood. Settlement Cove lagoon in Redcliffe and Bribie Island foreshores are great places for a picnic and swim. Just pack a picnic rug and remember to Slip Slop Slap if you’re in the sun.

2. Get your wheels out and bike ride or rollerblade along extensive cycle ways through the region. Whether you prefer waterfront locations or scenic parks and reserves, there are plenty of paths to choose from. Just remember to wear the right protective gear.

3. Visit the region’s museums and art galleries for an educational and aesthetic experience. Museums range from local history collections to specialised preservations of art, antiquity and heritage. Local artists have a wealth of scenery and topics to draw on having access to beach and buy in their backyard. There is so much to learn about history and culture and so much to admire about local art.

4. Stroll through a weekend market. The region is renowned for its many markets from the North Pine Country Market in Petrie, the Caboolture Markets at the showgrounds, to the beach front Redcliffe Jetty Markets and farmers markets on Bribie Island. There is much to look at and buy with fresh fruit and vegetables, hand-made goods, clothing, jewellery, bric-a-brac, plants, arts and crafts.

5. One of the best things about the region is the choice of so many fishing types: Reef, beacon, rock, beach, rivers and lakes are all catered for. If you don’t own a tinnie, there is a boat hire and chartered tours available.

6. Have you ever considered a coffee trail for something different? Try the cafes at Mt Glorious, Dayboro, Mt Mee and Woodford with the additional bonus of enjoying great scenery, fresh mountain air and specialty shops to browse. Woodford is the home of the international renowned Folk Festival and The Dreaming.

7. Visit charming Samford Village. The quaint and picturesque village features of a mix of historical buildings, modern shops and restaurants. Part of the Pine Rivers Shire and located just west of Ferny Hills, Samford was settled in the mid-1850s and has an interesting history that can be explored at the Samford District Heritage Museum.

8. Go skydiving and aim for Redcliffe’s beautiful Sutton’s beach. Not for the faint-hearted but good for the adrenalin action and certainly an experience to talk about. If jumping out of a perfectly good plane is not the adrenalin rush you are after, try a glider or joy flight available from the Redcliffe and Caboolture airfields.

9. Visit Old Petrie Town at Dayboro Rd, Kurwongbah to discover and explore historical buildings, quality specialty shops, handmade gifts and crafts, a heritage restaurant and function centre.

10. Discover Redcliffe Botanic Gardens in Henzell Street, Redcliffe. The gardens are a peaceful green haven featuring rainforest, wallum heath land, herb garden and Chorizema Spring. The herb garden is extremely popular with visitors and boasts more than 500 species of culinary, medicinal, industrial and native herbs. There are shelters, seating and drinking fountains provided at various locations as well as facilities for people with a disability. Entry is free.

MORETON BAY REGION

IPSWICH REGIONHERITAGE CITY Ipswich, Queensland’s oldest provincial city, is an alluring blend of heritage charm, metropolitan sophistication and expansive green spaces. Early colonial buildings stand proud in the city centre, lovingly restored Queenslanders perch on hills and quaint townships dot the surrounding countryside.

Just 40 minutes west of Brisbane and an hour from the Gold Coast, Ipswich combines rich heritage with the energy of being the hub of today’s growth region in South East Queensland. Ipswich has much to offer the history buff, with the Then & Now Heritage Trail Guides a great way to discover the City’s cherished built heritage. The series of 12 trails include private homes, rustic pubs, historic churches (both grand and quaint) and stately civic buildings.

Queensland’s railway history, which has its birthplace in Ipswich, is showcased at the award-winning interactive The Workshops Rail Museum. Discover the museum’s 16 interactive exhibition zones, train simulators, huge model railway, beautifully restored heritage locomotives and carriages, and behind the scenes tours of the working workshops.

A must see while touring Ipswich is the eclectic Top of Town precinct with its cafes, boutiques, galleries and antique stores, set against a back drop of shop facades from yesteryear. Complement this with a visit to one of Ipswich’s celebrated parklands: historic Queens Park with its Nature Centre and Japanese gardens, River Heart along the banks of the Bremer, or the 24ha Robelle Domain.

The mark of a great city is its capacity to attract and stage major events, and Ipswich is simply brimming with these. Markets, festivals, music, food and wine, arts and culture, family fun and fantastic motor sports deliver entertainment and excitement throughout the year.

Add to all this —• RAAF Aviation Heritage Centre • Hot Air Ballooning • Helicopter Tours • Stagecoach Lunches & Rides• Bushwalking & Canoe Trails • Steam Train Rides • Motor Sport Experiences • Award-Winning Vineyards

Whether you’re looking for family friendly fun, outdoor adventure, adrenalin action, pure indulgence or a glimpse back to bygone days… come and Discover Ipswich.

Contact the Ipswich Visitor Information Centre on (07) 3281 0555 for your free Ipswich Visitors’ Guide..
