Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, I am writing in regards to a new historic timeline that will take place this September in the town of Parsons, WV. The purpose it to raise funds to preserve the Corricks Ford site here in the town. It's importance by allowing the Union to se-cure western Virginia and being the site of the first general killed must be preserved. I am inviting all time periods from French and Indian War through Vietnam as the event is set up to display the American soldier and his/her adversaries through these time periods. The event website can be found at www.americansoldieratwar.webs.com and has the forms already posted and will be adding directions to the town today. As a teacher I took on organizing for educational purposes with the belief that both sides in the conflicts should be displayed. If you know of any groups in certain time periods such as Korea, Spanish-American War, Mexican-American War please forward this email to them. As reenactors in the US and Canada we all share a goal in preserving our nations histories and we work together to achieve them (except when the Olympics are here and we cheer for our home county). As we receive those registrations for units attending we will be able to set the schedule in regards for small reenact-ments, memorial service, drills, etc. Please feel free to contact us at [email protected] if you need any info or have any questions. Will use the website to put as much information as possible on it. I understand that some of you already have events scheduled or it may be too far to attend. However, again I am ask-ing if you would be kind enough to pass the event information along to those who might be interested. I thank you and hope to see you this September. Sincerely Robert Haught ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Julie Peirpont day …Sorry for the delay in reaching everyone but JoAnn with thew MC historical Society said she was not able to be in charge this year which made things a little difficult. Gena, our MCHS members and I have talk about this & we would like to try something a little less formal this year & more in keeping with Decoration Day. I hope you all like our idea and we are still open for any suggestions as we are just starting with the plans. Wha-ke-we-nn will be playing songs of the Civil War period. We are hoping that Pam & Art Dodd will be there to talk with people starting at 10. We would like to have a Civil War Display & a scanner encourging the people to bring in their Civil War photos & documents to be scanned. We are going to contact groups to ask them to take a portion of Woodlawn to clean the Civil War Graves & encourage people to buy the Confederate/GAR markers we have to place on the graves. Mark & Porter , I hope you can help with this. We are planning to have free box lunches for people who do this at Woodlawn. Also, to encourage people in other communities to take at least part of this day to go cementeries to clean graves. Tonja I am hoping that you have some ideas also. I think having the Civil War Re-enactors at the museum will play an important part for this day if you are agreeable to these ideas. I have scheduled a table for Friday down at the Coal River Festi-ful. From 3-6 the school children will be there & it sure would help to have some dressed re-enactors. This would be a great time to have your recruitment pamplets there. The newspaper likes the idea and are planning to do a feature story. We are looking for suggestions, Ideas, etc. Dora Grubb. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Good afternoon all, I have attached a list of West Virginia Civil War related events for this year and for 2011. Please contact me if you know of an event that should be added to this list. Also if you know of events that are scheduled for 2012 or 2013 please contact me with the information.
