FROM THE DIRECTORThe story of Frank Abagnale Jr. is unbelievable; but, it actually happened in real life.

His escapades throughout the 1960’s have been the subject of a bestselling novel, a blockbuster film, and a Tony award winning Broadway musical. From the age of 16 until his arrest, Frank committed frauds in every state in the USA, and 26 other countries. He impersonated a school teacher, pilot, doctor and a lawyer. And yet, his crime wave would result in a remarkable ending full of redemption. The show’s title is fitting since Frank was really chasing himself.

Had Frank chosen a different path early on, I’m confident he would have been successful at anything he put his mind to. Even at a young age, he was brilliant, brave and bold. His chameleon-like abilities allowed him to shift from persona to persona while hiding from what he feared most – love.

Assistant to the Director Emily Doucette and I were privileged to communicate with Mr. Abagnale during our research and preparation for this production. He provided us with some excellent information about his personal life, and warm words of encouragement for our cast and crew. It was an honour to have been able to connect with him in our quest to make this production truly one-of-a-kind.

The cast and crew have worked tirelessly to capture the essence of the ‘60’s in staging this production. I wanted to highlight the grand and glossy side of musical theatre in directing this show. Thank you for being with us. Your support is essential to providing members of our community with opportunities to collaborate, connect and create together.

It’s ironic that this musical about the life of one of the most prolific financial criminals ever known is being staged in what was once a courtroom. I am honoured to have had the opportunity to be an even greater part of that irony.

“Things looks better from above, so buckle up, next stop is love!” – Frank Abagnale Jr.

FROM THE PRODUCERS “ Mister Hanratty thinks he has all the facts, but only

I know just how I did it. And I did it in style.” Frank Jr.

Follow your doctor’s orders. Get ready for your day in court, fasten your seatbelt and put your tray in the upright position. The cast and crew of Catch Me if You Can have been working tirelessly and are ready to take off and delight audiences with this upscale, stylized musical extravaganza. We hope you enjoy the exciting adventures of Frank Abagnale Jr and cast.

WHO’S WHO IN THE CASTCHARLIE DAVIDSON (Frank Abagnale Jr.) appeared in Blood Brothers at WCT in 2000, and is pleased to be back and reuniting with Erastus 15 years after collaborating on

West Side Story (Tony). Proud grad of O’Neill CVI Performing Arts, previous credits include Hair (Claude), Jekyll/Hyde (title characters), Les Miserables, and extensive solo concert work throughout the GTA with Tafelmusik (Juno nomination), Toronto Mendelssohn Choir and more. Dedicated to all of the ‘Whitby gang,’ past and present. Thanks to our studio audience for taking part. Visit the ‘Frankie Files’ blog at charlesdavidson.ca!

BRIAN HARGAN (Carl Hanratty) This is Brian’s first appearance with WCT; he’s previously done shows all over the GTA. Some of his favourite roles include Billy in Anything Goes,

Shrek in Shrek the Musical and Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar. Brian has really enjoyed working with the entire team, most especially his wife Melanie, who’s playing the call girl. Brian has no comment on Melanie’s role, absolutely none. Nope, not gonna do it.

TOM LYNCH (Frank Abagnale Sr.) is delighted to be back at WCT after having appeared here in Communicating Doors and Urinetown where his characters were mean, and killed

people, Frank Sr. is a much nicer fella. Recent credits (OLT) also include Sweeney Todd (Judge Turpin), Jesus Christ Superstar (Caiaphas), and The Odd Couple (Murray). Tom hopes you’ll sit back and snap your fingers and tap your toes to this rat pack musical. Slainte.

KELLEY B. DEWEY (Paula Abagnale) is trés excited to be performing with this incredibly talented cast and crew. She would like to thank director, Erastus Burley, for seeing

the Paula within her, as well as her friends and family for their never ending support and encouragement throughout all the at home rehearsals. This is her first time at WCT, elsewhere: Hair (Lady/Street walker), OSLT’s Les Miserables (nun), The Odd Couple (Cecily Pidgeon) and The Sound of Music (Sister Margaretta).

ABIGAIL DENARDIS (Brenda Strong) is psyched to be performing with WCT for the first time. Her most fond roles include; Jasmine (Aladdin Jr) and Duffy (Annie Jr) among others.

She thanks her family, friends, cast/crew, ASLR and Deva for their endless support. Enjoy!

KATHY KNIGHT (Carol Strong) is happy to be back at WCT and working with so many talented young people. Thanks to my husband for putting up with all this crazy stuff! WCT stage credits include: The Full Monty (Jeanette), Funny Thing...Forum (Domina), Marvin’s Room

MELANIE HARGAN (Cheryl Ann/Ensemble) has really enjoyed being involved with WCT for the first time and working with all the fabulous cast and crew. She is very happy to be sharing the stage with her ridiculously always, talented husband. She would like to thank her two

wonderful children (Kyle and Emily) for all their love and support. Mom and Dad will see you again soon! Elsewhere: The Early Girl (Jean-BVP), 5 Women Wearing the Same Dress (Meredith-BVP), The War Show (Ensemble-NSC), Jenny’s House of Joy (Frances- BVP), My Fair Lady (Ensemble-Marquee).

BRETT HUETHER (Agent Branton) makes his return to WCT after an absence of 22 years. Brett is enthusiastic about entertaining, both on and off the stage, and feels his natural talent can pull off being in a musical for the first time. He has been quick to learn that not

only is singing hard, and dancing is hard, but singing and dancing together is even harder! Brett enjoys the challenge of the creative process, and hopes you enjoy this production.

JOSH FORD (Agent Cod) is back by popular demand after receiving a THEA nomination for his first ever stage performance as a bellhop in last season’s Communicating Doors. Director and all-around-do-everything-guy Erastus Burley begged

Josh to join the cast…not so much for his singing, dancing or acting, but rather to make sure he helped out building the set. Josh is happy to be part of such an awesome cast and crew, and when he wins his THEA this year he will be sure to thank them all in his acceptance speech.

NATHAN SIMPSON (Agent Dollar) is excited to play Agent Dollar in Catch Me If You Can. He is a grade10 performing arts student at O’Neill CVI. Recent credits include Young Frankenstein (Victor Frankenstein) TNEPC and Guys and Dolls (Sky Masterson)

JULIA BASDEN (Ensemble) is very excited to be making her way back on to the stage after a five year break. Some past shows include Hairspray, Fame, La Cage, Wizard of Oz, and The Music Man, but Catch Me If You Can has proven to be one of the most

challenging dance roles yet. Huge thanks go out to this fantastic cast and crew who made even the longest rehearsals so much fun. Much love and thanks to the support of Mike and kids – with you anything and everything is possible.

PETER BOU-GHANNAM (Jack Barnes/Ensemble) would like to thank his family and wonderful friends for their never-ending support of his thespian endeavours. WCT: The 39 Steps (Clown 1), The Full Monty (Marty), The Foursome (Ted), Habeas Corpus (Mr.

and New York. Emily would like to thank the entire cast and crew for being such a joy to work with. She also advises her loving family to politely turn away when she is being overly sexual in the show ;).

JUDY GIBSON (Ensemble) Judy’s first time performing with WCT not only involves working with some great people, but she also gets to share the stage with her twin sister, Janet, making this experience all the more fun. WCT: The Full Monty (choreographer). CCP: A Christmas Carol (Christmas

Future/Hag). SMT: Damn Yankees (Doris), The King and I (choreographer), Little Women (choreographer), Sweeney Todd (ensemble), My Fair Lady (dancer/ensemble). SMT & Yorkminstrels: Gypsy (Electra)

CHRIS HANOWSKI (Ensemble) is tickled to pieces to show off his lack of dance skills in CMIYC. His past credits include; CMTP Whitby/Ajax: Hair (Woof); OLT: Into the Woods (Jack), Jesus Christ Superstar (Jesus), West Side Story (Tony), A Funny Thing … Forum (Gymnasia); WCT:

DESMOND HARTY (Ensemble) is delighted to be making his third appearance on WCT’s stage. Previously with WCT, Desmond played the role of Little Charles in August: Osage County and various roles including Not Dead Fred, Brother Maynard, and Prince Herbert in last

season’s Monty Python’s Spamalot.

IAN LAKE (Ensemble) thanks his family for their continued support and would love to see everybody again at the WCT youth group’s presentation of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka in June. Previous performances with WCT’s youth group include Alice in Wonderland

(March Hare); Crazy for You (Zangler), Seussical (Mr. Mayor). Ian is very excited to be part of the adult production of Catch Me If You Can.

ALEX LEMBO (Dance Captain/Ensemble) Alexandra is thrilled to be performing in her first WCT production. As both a choreographer and performer, she has been involved with OLT and GHF Productions. She thanks her family and friends; she kind of loves you.

JACKSON McMANN (Ensemble) is pleased to be joining the ensemble for his fourth production at WCT. Some of his prior credits include: Young Frankenstein, Crazy For You, and Into The Woods. He would like to thank his parents and the production crew for all their support.

BRIANNE MENCHION (Ensemble) was last seen in H2$ (ensemble) at OLT, Annie (ensemble) at Monsignor John Pereyma and her performing arts class’ one act comedy Bad Ideas for Bad Television Shows (Tooley). She is thrilled to be a part of Catch Me If You Can as her

first production with WCT. Brianne cannot wait to continue performing in the future, and would like to thank her teachers Johnny Soln and Karin Mausser for inspiring her love for theatre.

AMBER SARGENT (Ensemble) is truly humbled to be back on Whitby’s stage, and is amazed at being trusted to sing as much as she is in CMIYC. Growing up a competitive dancer has given her great confidence and passion on stage and it is truly somewhere she can

call home. You may have seen her in OLT’s Sweeney Todd last year, or in a WCT youth group show from 2010-2014. Many thanks to her mother and fiancé for their generous support; it does not go unnoticed! Please sit back, relax, (keep your hands and feet inside the ride at all times), and enjoy this truly breathtaking spectacle!

LEANNA SHONIKER (Ensemble) is incredibly grateful to work in such a vibrant, captivating, and brilliantly hilarious show alongside the inspiring and unfathomably talented cast and crew of WCT’s Catch Me if You Can. She is thankful for your support in local performing arts, and

hopes CMIYC transports you to an electrifying place tonight!

WHO’S WHO IN THE PRODUCTION TEAMERASTUS BURLEY (Director/Costume & Set Designer) has recently reunited with his love of directing. #CMIYC2017 marks his return to the limitless world of musical theatre in over a decade. Sometimes it’s the pauses in the music that mean the most.

BAIBA SENECAL (Choreographer) keeps busy choreographing productions throughout the GTA. She is happy to to be back choreographing at WCT, where she previously was choreographer for Urinetown.

HEATHER DOUCETTE (Co-producer/Stage Manager) is excited to be working on this project in a dual role. Heather currently holds the secretary position on WCT’s Board of Directors, and has worked on numerous productions at WCT as a stage manager and co-producer. She is

excited to be surrounded by so much talent, and the friends she has made along the way. Heather hopes you enjoy the show.

RHONDA MARTIN (Co-producer) is thrilled to be back at WCT, and working with her friends. She has especially enjoyed teaming up with Heather again. Rhonda is proud to a part of this ‘flight’ back to the 60s, and to be working on such an entertaining production with an

amazingly talented cast and crew.

NICK DENIS (Band Leader) is very excited to be making his conducting debut with this energetic, fun and incredibly busy show. An enormous thanks to the fantastic group of musicians on this stage that make it seem like he can take credit for any of their hard work (which he really can’t).

Thanks to the production team for trusting him with this amazing responsibility, and to the cast and crew for welcoming me and helping me through every step of this crazy adventure. Lastly, thanks to you for supporting local theatre. Enjoy the show!

DEVA NEELY (Vocal Coach) is thrilled working with such an amazing team and talented cast. An honours graduate from Ryerson Theatre School’s Acting Program, Deva most recently did a commercial for an e-reader and had a featured role in the movie La Boda di Valentina directed by Hollywood director, Marco Polo Constandse. Along with her own concert cabaret, a few favourite roles include: Beth in California Suite and Aunt Millie in Death to Dating at the 2008 Fringe Festival. Along with directing, adjudicating and keynote speaking throughout the GTA, Deva has been a private voice coach for over 15 years. In NYC, Deva was a finalist for the part of Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray on Broadway.

GREG POULIN (Lighting Designer) has been the lighting designer for numerous WCT productions, most recently Seussical, Monty Python’s Spamalot and The 39 Steps. Though it is usually with his adorable wife Pauline, this time he had to “go it alone.” When not in a theatre, Greg fancies himself a novice real estate investor and Doctor Who enthusiast. Enjoy the show!

MARGO RODGERS (Sound Designer) has performed in and directed many productions around Durham. This is her fourth sound design project for WCT. Her previous work was on The 39 Steps, Spamalot, and August: Osage County. She has had fun working creatively with Erastus on this fabulous show.

DEB SMITH (Props Lead) Sourcing, collecting and creating props for a 60s musical is a delightful trip into the past. When not combing flea markets, or cleaning up the prop room, Deb raises guide dog puppies, and drives a lot from Whitby to Prince Edward County. Thank you, Erastus for your vision, energy and innovation, and thank you, Julie for teaming up with me once again.

ALEX KONC (Sound Engineer) is a passionate sound engineer and musician. Past credits include sound design and mix for Sweeney Todd, Les Miserables, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Fully Monty, Oliver, Mary Poppins and other performances in local community theatres, live festivals, radio broadcasts and music recordings at other venues. Alex is thrilled to be back at WCT!

ERICA SIMPSON (Makeup Designer) is so excited to be working backstage on Catch Me If You Can this season. She has just finished doing makeup for WCT’s August: Osage County, and Rocky Horror at Dancyn. She wants to thank Erastus, Heather and Rhonda for this opportunity!
