The Buffs went 22-of-56 (39.3%) from the floor in the game including 7-of-22 (31.8%) from deep and 31-of-39 (79.5%) from the free throw line to go along with 33 rebounds (11 offensive, 22 defensive), 29 fouls, six assists, 17 turnovers, no blocks and 10 steals. David Chavlovich went 6-of-12 from the floor and 2-of-4 from deep to lead WT with 19 points followed by Jerrod Walton (16), Eric Golightly Jr. (11) and Joseph Prince (11) in double-digits. WT HEAD COACH TOM BROWN Head coach Tom Brown was hired on April 16, 2014, as the 17th head coach in WT men’s basketball history. The Buffs completed an impressive season under Brown in his rookie campaign in Canyon. While returning just three student-athletes who saw play- ing time the year prior and picked last in the conference preseason poll, WT finished the season with a 17-12 overall record (12-4 at home) and 7-7 mark in Lone Star Confer- ence play. They made the LSC Tournament as the fifth seed and fell in the quarterfinals to eventual tournament champion Texas A&M-Commerce. Brown is currently 37-21 overall during his time in Canyon. NCAA SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL RANKINGS (FEB. 24th) The Buffs ramained ninth in the newest release of the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball South Central Regional Rankings announced on Wednesday afternoon. Midwestern State sits atop of the regional rankings followed by Angelo State, Fort Lewis, Tarleton State, Colorado School of Mines, Dallas, Baptist, Lubbock Christian, Arkansas-Fort Smith, WT and St, Edward’s. The top eight teams in the South Central Region will take part in the Regional Tournament taking place on March 12-15 at the top overall seed, the winners of the three conference tournaments will receive an automatic bid into the postseason with the last five spots being filled by at-large selections. EASTERN NEW MEXICOThe Greyhounds enter the weekend with an overall record of 6-19 with a 2-11 mark in LSC play as they fell to Texas A&M-Commerce (81-73) on Saturday in Commerce for Eatern’s fifth straight loss. ENMU is led by second year head coach Stott Carter who served five season as the Greyhounds top assistant for five seasons. The Greyhounds are led offensively by John Gilliam who has gone 41-of-98 (41.8%) from the floor in his nine games played this season in-cluding 53-of-68 (77.9%) from the free throw line to lead the team in scoring with 16.0 points per contest followed by Lawrence Domingo who averages 11.6 points per game while grabbing 8.0 rebounds per contest. ENMU has gone 590-of-1468 (40.2%) from the floor this season including 155-of-496 (31.3%) from deep and 382-of-622 (61.4%) from the chariry stripe while averaging 40.3 rebounds per contest to go along with 232 assists, 75 blocks, and 125 steals while scoring 71.5 points per contest for a scoring margin of -11.1.

LAST MEETING (JAN. 30, 2016)The Buffs started out the game down four points before they went on a 25-4 run as they rushed past the rival Greyhounds, 97-64 in front of over 2,200 fans at the First United Bank Center on Hall of Champions Weekend in Canyon. The Buffs went 32-of-59 (54.2%) from the floor including 13-of-25 (52%) from long range and 20-of-28 (71.4%) from the charity stripe to go along with 43 rebounds (12 offensive, 31 defensive), 22 fouls, 20 assists, 17 turnovers, four blocks and eight steals. Head coach Tom Brown was hired on April 16, 2014, as the 17th head coach in WT men’s basketball history.

The Buffs recently completed an im-pressive season under Brown in his rookie campaign in Canyon. While returning just three student-athletes who saw playing time the year prior and picked last in the conference preseason poll, WT finished the season with a 17-12 overall record (12-4 at home) and 7-7 mark in Lone Star Confer-ence play. They made the LSC Tournament as the fifth seed and fell in the quarterfinals to eventual tournament champion Texas A&M-Commerce.

In 2014-15, the Buffs started out the sea-son ranked 159th in the Hero Sports Division II Rankings and improved greatly to finish the season ranked 50th in DII Hoops.

Senior guard Tez Dumars made a mark on the WT record book last season as he moved into 4th place on the all-time scor-ing list with 1,230 points to passed former NBA All-Star Maurice Cheeks. Arlington native David Chavlovich was named the Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year, he was also named to the LSC All-Conference Second Team for his efforts on the court, averaging 16.5 points per contest to go along with 93 assists and 30 steals.

The 2014-15 season was also a banner year in the classroom. The team achieved the highest recorded Team GPA in the history of West Texas A&M Men’s Basketball as the team increased their team GPA by more than 38% over the previous season.

Brown has 21 years of coaching experi-ence overall, and was part of one of the most successful Division II men’s basketball programs in recent history as he helped lead the Warriors to the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2006 and 2008, while finishing runner-up in 2007. During that span, Winona State posted an unprec-edented 105-6 record.

Named Division II Bulletin’s ‘Program of the Decade’ for 2000-2009, WSU set a NCAA Division II record with 57 consecutive

wins, a run that began on Jan. 13, 2006, and didn’t end until the national title game on Mar. 24, 2007. The 2007-08 Warrior squad won a NCAA record 38 games.

An excellent recruiter and teacher, Brown recruited and developed some of the best players in the nation with three Na-tional Player of the Year recipients, along with six first team All-America honorees and 10 players total have earned All-America status. He helped coach five NSIC Most Valuable Players, seven NSIC Defensive Players of the Year and two Elite Eight Most Valuable Players.

In addition to on the court success, the Warriors were very strong in the classroom as the men’s basketball team had a grade-point average of 3.0 or better each semester since Fall 2011 under Brown, with a graduation rate 35% higher than the national average.

Brown attended and played basket-ball at Winona State from 1988-1992. He finished his Warrior career ranked fifth in program history in scoring, second in assists and first in steals. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1993 in physical education and completed his master’s degree in educa-tion in 1998.

He and his wife Trisha are the proud par-ents of three children, TJ, Zach and Ella.
