Parents have until Friday, May 31 to make final tuition payments for S.T.E.P.S. If parent/guardians have NOT made tuition payments for S.T.E.P.S. by May 31 their student will NOT be guaranteed to participate in the program and their space will be offered to students on the waiting list.

FEESIn order to reserve your space for

S.T.E.P.S. summer learning institute, you will need to pay a $50.00 registration fee that must be submitted with your student’s application. The registration fee reserves your space for S.T.E.P.S. 2013.

The registration fee is non-refundable. The S.T.E.P.S. tuition fee is $200.

The S.T.E.P.S. tuition fee must be paid in full by May 31, 2013.

PaymentsMoney orders/Cashiers checks

should be made payable to Winston Salem/Forsyth County Schools in the note column please indicate S.T.E.P.S. Summer Institute. Parents will be allowed to make incremental payments to pay the tuition fee for S.T.E.P.S. as long as ALL fees are paid by May 31, 2013.

Also, fees may be paid online by accessing the S.T.E.P.S. website at http://wsfcs.k12.nc.us/Page/69346 and selecting the S.T.E.P.S. Academically Gifted Summer Institute link. Please note that there is a 4% processing fee for each transaction completed online. This processing fee is a percentage of the total payment that you are paying for the summer Institute. You can pay online and make payments but you will incur a processing fee of 4% of the total amount you are paying each time. Also, online payments options for S.T.E.P.S. will not be available after May 3, 2013 or whenever the Learning Institute reaches space capacity.

If you submit your registration fee and your child is not one of the first 150 students registered for S.T.E.P.S., your name will be placed on the wait list. Should a space become available after May 31 you will be contacted to determine if you are interested in your child participating in the program. You will be required to pay the tuition fee at that time. Students that are waitlisted due to space availability and do not receive the opportunity to attend the camp, will receive a refund for the camp registration and any other fees that have been paid.

Students eligible for free/reduced lunch will have the registration fee waived. They will also receive a reduced S.T.E.P.S. tuition rate of $75. In order to verify student eligibility, parents will need to complete the required paperwork with the application.

FAMILY INVOLVEMENTWe encourage family involvement and

have provided opportunities for parents to touch basis with S.T.E.P.S. staff members and also find out what their child is learning. On Sunday, July 7, 2013 there will be a S.T.E.P.S. open house from 2:00-4:00pm. This will be an opportunity for families to meet the institute staff and ask any questions or concerns. Parents/guardians will meet with teachers at this time to provide information on how they might best meet student needs and provide appropriate levels of challenge.

On Friday, July 12, 2013 there will be a Closing S.T.E.P.S. Exhibition/Ceremony. During this time students will receive recognition for participation in the Learning Institute. Also, there will be a student exhibition portion which will provide parents/guardians an opportunity to listen, hear, and see what students have learned in their S.T.E.P.S. courses

PHOTOGRAPHING OF STUDENTS

WSFCS schools and school district supported programs use photographs and audio, digital, video and other recordings of students to publicize school activities in a variety of outlets. You are asked to review the Photo opt-out form and determine if you will NOT allow your student to participate in photographs, audio, digital or video recordings during the S.T.E.P.S. summer institute. If you choose NOT to allow your child to be photographed, etc. you should complete the Opt-Out photo form and submit it with your child’s application for participation. This information will be kept on file and used to determine if students can be photographed during the institute.

REGISTRATIONEnrollment is limited to the first 150

students. Payment of the registration fee secures your space in the WSFCS 2013 S.T.E.P.S. Summer Learning Institute. Registration fees should be submitted with the application in order to participate in the program. All registration fees and student applications are due by Friday, May 3.

TEACHER RECOMMENDATION

Since S.T.E.P.S. is a gifted student learning program, we expect that all students should be highly motivated to participate in the program. In order to gain more information about your child’s strengths and areas for growth we have requested that a teacher of each student complete a recommendation form. This information will be used to assist the teachers in the S.T.E.P.S. program in planning and developing learning experiences to meet your child’s needs.
