1 Overview
1.1 Introduction
Figure 1-1 Appearance
HUAWEI Router A1 (A1 for short) is a cost-effective 802.11ac wireless router designed for
use in homes and small offices.
Gigabit-speed wired and wireless Internet for faster browsing, video streaming, and
gaming
The router features three gigabit-speed wired LAN ports designed for fiber optic and other
high-speed broadband connections. This makes the transfer of HD movies and other large
files up to 10 times faster than on a conventional router. The 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi
delivers gigabit connection speeds of up to 1200 Mbit/s. The 5 GHz Wi-Fi network offers less
interference and delay for seamless gaming, whereas the 2.4 GHz network offers better signal
reception.

Dual-core 1 GHz CPU and 256 MB RAM
A1 is powered by a dual-core CPU with a unique Wi-Fi hardware acceleration core to
increase Wi-Fi performance by up to 30%. Its powerful CPU and 256 MB RAM ensure a
stable Wi-Fi connection when traffic is high. Up to 64 devices can connect to the router at the
same time.
Better signal coverage
A1 features two separate signal amplifiers for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks to improve
signal coverage in large houses.
Enhanced security
A1 comes with an anti-brute force algorithm to prevent hackers from accessing the network.
You can disconnect any unwanted devices at the touch of a button and set up a dedicated
Wi-Fi network for guests to ensure the network security.
Easy to use
A1 can be configured on your mobile phone without using the computer.
One-key Wi-Fi network coverage expansion
A1 can be connected to another router that supports HUAWEI HiLink technology to expand
and improve Wi-Fi network coverage. Both routers will use the same network name and
password, and devices will automatically switch to the router with stronger Wi-Fi signal.

2 Functions and Features
2.1 HUAWEI HiLink You can use the Hi button to connect to another HiLink router wirelessly and extend the
range of your network.
A1 can be connected to another HiLink router using a network cable to extend the range
of your network. The router will automatically configure the settings.
HiLink devices automatically synchronize the Wi-Fi settings. If the network consists of
multiple HiLink routers, the router admin password will also be synchronized. If A1 is
connected to other routers as a repeater, it will automatically switch connected devices to
the router with the best Wi-Fi performance.
2.2 Connecting to an Existing Router (Wired Bridge or Wireless Repeater)
A1 can be cascaded to an existing router using a network cable.
A1 can be used as a Wi-Fi repeater to be cascaded wirelessly to an existing router. When
functioning as a Wi-Fi repeater, the router has the same SSID name and Wi-Fi password
as the existing router.
Use HUAWEI HiLink to quickly connect HUAWEI routers as Wi-Fi repeaters.
2.3 Network Security A1 controls Wi-Fi access and disconnects unwanted devices to prevent unauthorized
access.
You can set up a dedicated Wi-Fi network for guests, who can access the Internet but
cannot manage the router or access other devices on the home network. It is to ensure the
privacy security of the home network
A1 can hide the Wi-Fi network to improve network security. A1 Wi-Fi network cannot
be detected on the computer, mobile, and other wireless devices after the Wi-Fi network
is hidden, and users have to manually enter the SSID in order to connect.

A1 associates the IP address and MAC address of connected devices to prevent ARP
spoofing.
Built-in firewall protects against DoS/ARP attacks. All Internet and home network traffic
must pass through the firewall to ensure network security.
DMZ feature allows you to expose all of the host computer’s ports to the Internet. Traffic
from other devices still has to pass through the firewall. For example, when setting up a
server, you can set the computer connecting to the external network as the DMZ host to
allow it to provide services through the Internet while ensuring the security of the other
devices on your home network.
A1 supports PAP/CHAP adaptive authentication for secure password transmission.
2.4 Power-saving Features You can choose from three different power plans: boost mode to improve signal strength,
standard mode, or sleep mode to reduce power consumption at night.
Wi-Fi timer allows you to disable Wi-Fi for a specified time period (such as after
midnight or when you’re at work) in order to reduce power consumption.
2.5 Parental Control
The parental control feature allows you to configure a website blacklist and control when your
family members can access the Internet.
2.6 Router Management Web-based configuration page can be accessed from computers, smartphones, or tablets for
easy network configuration. Alternatively, the router can also be configured on your phone
using the HUAWEI HiLink app.
2.7 USB File Sharing Users can save photos, videos, and other resources to a USB storage device and then connect
the storage device to the router. The saved files can be accessed on any device that is
connected to the router’s Wi-Fi network.
2.8 Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) A1 allows you to configure a virtual private network (VPN) for secure and convenient access
to files on your company’s network.
Supports VPN passthrough (requires LAN-side device to dial the VPN connection).
Supports L2TP and PPTP VPN clients.

2.9 Other Features Supports Network Address Translation (NAT) and Network Address and Port Translation
(NAPT) (RFC 1631, RFC 2663, RFC 2766, and RFC 3022).
Supports DHCP server and clients
Automatically assigns the IP address, gateway, and DNS through the router’s DHCP
server.
Supports Dynamic DNS (DDNS) and DNS proxies
A1 assigns a fixed domain name to the dynamic WAN IP address. This allows you to
access the router’s resources remotely using the fixed domain name without the need to
search for the WAN IP address.
Supports Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)
Computers in the LAN can request A1 to automatically switch the port. This allows
computers connected to the Internet to access the resources stored on any other
computers in the LAN (such as MSN Messenger, and other applications that support
UPnP protocols). It also increases network stability when you use video streaming or
peer-to-peer file sharing software.
