Grant Alexander The ABC's of Broadway marks Grant's second summer musical revue at SCT and his third mainstage show. He was last seen on the SCT stage in last season’s opener, the comedy Leading Ladies, as the dimwitted “Butch.” Grant is also an active performer on the Mississippi State University campus, where, in addition to pursuing his B.A. in English, he is a member of the MSU Show Choir, Blitz, and an active participant in Theatre MSU productions, having appeared in recent productions of The Apple Tree, Anything To Declare, and Little Shop of Horrors. Grant would like to thank his fellow "students" for being an absolute joy to work with and Alison for giving him the opportunity to come and play with the SCT players once again! And, as a point of clarification, in case there should be any doubt, Grant does indeed wear underwear every day, 365 days a year. “Enjoy the show!” Ruby Brenner Ruby is a Starkville native about to enter her senior year as a music education major at MSU with an emphasis in voice. Ruby has been in MSU’s Concert Choir and Chamber Singers for the last three years and has a fabulous job at MSU’s Wildlife and Fisheries Department. The ABC’s of Broadway is Ruby’s first performance on the SCT stage, and she would like to thank the cast and crew for making her feel like part of the family. Ruby has met a lot of wonderful people and has had a blast preparing for the show! John Brocato John could not be more excited to be in his first SCT summer revue. He recently appeared in his first SCT show ever, the wholly fantastic Ug! The Caveman Musical, and he fully intends on appearing in many, many more during the years to come. John appeared in numerous productions while he was an undergraduate at MSU, including Look Homeward, Angel; Rhinoceros; Foxfire; and Terra Nova. He has also been a musician since the age of 7, and, in addition to performing/writing/recording as a solo artist, he’s a member of at least four rock bands: the Persians, Skeleton Crew, the Tuffskinz, and the Doomsters. During the day, John works in the Bagley College of Engineering helping engineering students improve their writing and speaking skills. Most importantly, he loves sharing life with his awesome wife, Kay, his awesome kids, Bailey, Vinny, and Sicily, and his awesome dachshund, Glad. John thanks everyone involved with The ABC’s of Broadway for their hard work and for making this such a fun and rewarding experience.

About the Cast Matt Crane The ABC’s of Broadway marks Matt's third summer musical revue at SCT. Matt is a senior theatre major at Mississippi State and has been involved in their productions of The Little Shop of Horrors, Anything to Declare, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Emperor's New Clothes, and Rabbit Hole. Here at SCT, Matt worked backstage for Catfish Moon during its run at the AACT national competition and has been a part the 2008 and 2009 summer revues, Company, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [Abridged], and most recently Ug! The Caveman Musical. "Big thank-you to Alison, Bonnie, Bruce, the Band, Carole, Pattye, Lyle, Sue, and everyone else who made this possible. Also, to the cast, you have been amazing to work with." MJ Etua MJ, a senior, is one of the original members of the Glee Club. After graduation she plans to attend Princeton University, where she has been offered a Glee Club scholarship and an Artistic Roller Skating scholarship. MJ is also a member of the USA Roller Sports 2010 Junior and Senior Figure Skating Word Team. Next semester she will compete at the 2010 Pan American Championships in Rosario, Argentina, and the 2010 Roller Figure World Championships in Portimao, Portugal. She has a gold and two silver medals from the 2009 World Artistic Roller Skating Championships held in Freiburg, Germany. Her hobbies are reading, watching old movie musicals, roller-skating, and retro culture. MJ’s favorite quote is “A million lights are dancing, and there you are, a shooting star!” Blake Garrett Blake is ecstatic to be appearing in his second production with Starkville Community Theatre! He is very thankful for the amazing friends he has found in his SCT cast mates and excited for everyone to see all of the hard work that has gone into The A, B, C’s of Broadway. Blake thanks Alison Stamps for allowing him to be a part of this amazing production! He has been dancing and singing since before he can remember and appreciates all the support and love from his family and friends for letting him let his freak flag fly.

About the Cast Madeline Golden Madeline is happy to be onstage again singing and tapping and enjoying fun times with old and new friends in SCT's summer musical revue. She sends congratulations to Alison for the great job she has done directing the show. "What a grand debut, Alison!" Madeline’s thanks go to Bonnie for her hard work as assistant director and "word police;" to Sarah, Pattye, and Lyle for their choreography; and to Carole and Bruce for their magical, musical fingers! Madeline sends love and appreciation to all the cast, crew, and musicians for the great times and the many, many laughs. Madeline works at MSU in the Office of Agricultural Communications and lives at home with her babies - Thumper, Moogene, Max, Wally, and Rowdy. Brian Hawkins With his performance in The A, B, C's of Broadway, Brian makes it an even dozen in summer musical revue appearances at Starkville Community Theatre. This is also his 20th on-stage appearance overall at the Playhouse on Main. Most recently seen reprising the role of “Smudge” in Plaid Tidings, Brian has performed a variety of comedic and dramatic roles on the SCT stage, though he still hopes one day to stage a scaled-down version of The Phantom of the Opera so he can play the title role. When not "shedding his housecoat" at SCT, Brian works as the editor of the Starkville Daily News and is actively involved as a volunteer with the Oktibbeha County Relay for Life and the MSU Famous Maroon Band, among other activities. He is also a member of First United Methodist Church, where he sings in the chancel choir. Brian lovingly dedicates this performance to the memory of two wonderful women: Lora Defore, whose friendship and mentoring over the years he will always treasure, and Verna Ramsey, a great lady with a zest for life that was unparalleled and a loving heart to match. Lorraine Hughes Lorraine returned to the stage after too many years to count for Sorta Love Songs earlier this spring. She enjoyed working with the Starkville Community Theatre folks so much that she is now in this summer's musical and has really enjoyed the work and friendships that have ensued. When she is not singing about sauerkraut, worms, recipes, and letting her freak flag fly, she teaches mathematics and statistics at MSU. She is very thankful to her husband, Ben, for his support and tolerance for many dinnerless nights. “You rock, Alison!”

About the Cast Maureen Hughes Maureen, a sophomore at Mississippi State University majoring in theatre and accounting, is thrilled to be making her debut on the SCT stage. After helping with tech for five SCT shows, she has officially become a regular at the theater. You may have seen her in the recent productions of Sorta Love Songs and The Apple Tree, in which she played “Eve”…unexpectedly. She would like to thank her friends and family for once again supporting her in all her theatre endeavors, and she knows for a fact that everyone will love the show…not that it’s expected or anything. Amy Dupire Jones Amy hasn't set foot on stage since high school, and the only drama in her life comes from homeschooling her four young children. Her wonderful husband has the joy of putting them all to bed on rehearsal and performance nights, and that's what keeps Amy looking so young and ... sane(-ish). When she's not herding kids, Amy writes fiction and teaches for an online teachers certification program. She is grateful to the cast of The A, B, C's of Broadway for making her initiation back to the stage so much fun. It's been a joy to sing and play with such warm and talented people. Brenda Mayo Brenda is happy to be a part of Mrs. Shuster's Glee Club. Brenda is a third-year junior, having transfered from St. Nicholas School in the Bronx. Brenda performed in SCT's regional glee competition Let Freedom Sing and 10 out of 10: A Perfect Score. She also assisted Mr. La Foe's drama class production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare [Abridged]. Brenda thanks her favorite teachers – Ms. Stamps, Ms. Oppenheimer, and Ms. Sorenson – as well as Coach Lesley for all of their help. She thinks they all deserve a big raise. (“Do you think that will get me an ‘A’ in their classses?”) Tracey Millsaps Getting once again to be a cast member of the SCT summer musical is such a treat for Tracey. “Sharing the stage with all this great talent is a wonderful way to spend a summer and helps to satisfy my longing for Broadway lights.” She thanks Alison and Bonnie for their great organized direction and Carole and Bruce for sharing their musical talents with the group. She also sends a big thanks to her husband, Paul, who patiently helped her learn her lyrics!

About the Cast Brad Moreland The A, B, C's of Broadway is Brad's fourth production with Starkville Community Theatre. He was last seen performing in Sorta Love Songs and before that as "Frankie" in the SCT production of Plaid Tidings. Before that he played "Doc" in Leading Ladies. Brad thanks Alison, Bonnie, Bruce, Carole, and the amazing cast and crew for making this production such a joy. "It is such a humbling experience to share the stage with these super talented people whom I have admired for so many years. It's a privilege to call them my friends." Rick Rogers Rick appears tonight in his second summer musical revue at SCT. In addition to last year's revue, he was seen in Plaid Tidings here on the SCT stage. When Rick is not singing in the Glee Club, he is an engineer with Tronox, Inc., in Hamilton, MS. He has lived in Columbus for the last two years, has thoroughly enjoyed his SCT experiences, and looks forward to more!!!! Janis Ross Janis is excited and proud to be performing in her first SCT musical revue. She is glad to be working with such a great cast and crew, and she anticipates taking away many fond memories from this experience. Janis thanks God and her family and friends for being so supportive of her. She especially thanks her little sister KaDeen, who has been her constant companion and helps her to rehearse at home. Janis also thanks Marianne Ulmer, her first director, who encouraged her to continue being involved in theatre. Janis is a sophomore at MSU, majoring in journalism and theatre. She recently appeared in The Apple Tree at MSU as a part of the chorus. Janis enjoys reading, writing fiction, and anything involving music. Mary Kathryn Sanford Mary Kathryn is a recent graduate of the University of Mississippi. While in school, she performed with the University of Mississippi’s Opera Theatre Department in Die Fledermaus, Too Many Sopranos, Carmen, La Perichole, Gianni Schicchi, From the Met to Broadway and Back Again, and Brush Up Your Shakespeare. This is Mary Kathryn’s third summer revue appearance, and she is delighted to be back on SCT’s stage with new and familiar faces. She looks forward to staying involved with the Starkville Community Theatre this fall. She thanks her fiancé, family, and friends for their love and support.

About the Cast Abigail Voller Abigail is thankful for such a loving SCT family who has welcomed her back with open arms; she is so happy to be back on the stage with her theatre friends, both old and new. This show is Abigail's third production with SCT, having previously performed in A… My Name Will Always Be Alice and The Power of One. The A, B, C's of Broadway has been a show of fun, giggles, and belly-laughs, and Abigail thanks Alison, Bonnie, Carole, Bruce, Pattye, and Lyle (and the rest of the cast and crew) for their leadership and hard work on the show; she also thanks her parents for their continued support of her theatre life. Abigail begins work as a lecturer at MSU in the fall and currently resides in Starkville with her cat, Elizabeth. Kat Hester Kat is so grateful for Alison and all of her talented friends at SCT. It's been a long time since she's been able to join in all the fun!!! Kat has spent the past few years exploring the arts with students in the VIVA program at Armstrong Middle School. "I love being around young people who are just beginning to see their own possibilities. It's exciting to be a part of this creative 'validation' process with energetic adolescents!" 2010 marks the beginning of her 29th year in the Mississippi public school system with 24 of them invested in the Starkville School District. Her own three awesome children are out of the Hester nest and have made their homes in Hattiesburg, New Orleans, and Tuscaloosa. Kat enjoys the weekends with her wonderful husband, Charles, and impromptu visits over to her dad's. Their four crazy, lovable pets keep her grounded and very, very busy. “Here's to the Middle-of-the-Human-Timeline-Agenda and the beginning of my next journey!!!! Cheers, y'all!” Bonnie Oppenheimer Bonnie is a professor of mathematics at Mississippi University for Women. Although she sang in the chorus for six of these summer musicals, she had so much fun backstage skinny dipping with the Dixie Swim Club, she decided to stay backstage this summer. She thanks everyone in the awesome cast for putting up with her backstage behavior (grading papers, of course!). “Thanks to everyone for their patience as I learn what to do in this new role. And a special thanks to Alison, who knows what I’m supposed to be doing really well, and can lead me through it!”

From the Director The joy and enthusiasm that you see on stage is something that I have been able to see all summer, and I am thrilled that you can experience it with those of us in The A, B, C’s of Broadway. As a director, I have been honored to work with talented people who were willing to try any-thing (even jazz hands). As a result, we have shared a lot of laughs and created a lot of memories. In the end, the hard work and dedication of the cast, crew, and musicians have made this tremendous show. To the cast, thank you for your dedication and talent. You are the dream cast because your “glee club” spirit is infectious. I love watching you on stage. More than that, I have loved the moments that we have had during rehearsals. This summer, we have celebrated birthdays, an en-gagement, and a pseudo-marriage. We also shared some recipes (vs. remedies), scuttling, jazz hands, Ethel Merman, and Bolivia Fig New-ton John. Thanks for making this so much fun! On the technical side, I would like to thank Bonnie Oppenheimer for all her help. Music question? Ask Bonnie for help. Clapping question? Ask Bonnie for help. Air conditioning flooding? Ask Bonnie for help. No matter what challenge we faced, she always came through and helped with everything. Because of her talent, patience, and understanding, she was the perfect AD for the show. Thanks, Bonnie, for everything that you have done. Also, Casey, Patricia, and Simone, you make everyone look good! Thanks for all that you have done. Casey and Simone, I real-ly appreciate the fact that you had to work without air conditioning. You two are extremely dedicated! I must take a moment to express my appreciation to Carole Sorenson and Bruce Lesley. These two musical directors made my job easy. Carole worked with the cast in June in order to help us learn all 26 songs. With her patience, talent, and birthday cake surprises, we were able to make it through the arduous task. Although the audience may not see Carole on the stage, I can assure you that her work is center stage. She is truly the unseen cast member, and we could not have done it without her. Also, she prepared the cast for Bruce’s leg of the show. Bruce had the challenge of learning the 26 songs after the cast, but he did a wonderful job of stepping in during the month of July. He worked countless hours preparing this music and practicing with Jim and James, and their dedication shows.

Bruce, I will miss our morning meetings and music talks! Thank you for all that you have done. This theatre is fortunate to have the talent of all of these musicians. Other individuals who gave their support should also be applauded. When I asked for some help, these volunteers were ready for the challenge. There are too many people to name them all, but I must say a special thank you to Thomas La Foe, Sarah Norris, Sue Snow, and Lyle Tate. These individuals went beyond helping—they were as dedicated to the show as the cast. Also, I must say a special thank you to Pattye Archer, who taught me everything she knows. It is hard to follow in the footsteps of someone who has directed these summer revues for ten years. If I had a question, a problem, or a creative block, she helped out. When there were times that I didn’t even believe that it could all be done, she was my “Just One Person.” Thank you, Pattye, for being there! You, too, are a part of the Glee Club. We wouldn’t have it any other way. Alison
