What is a C.V. (or Resume)? *C.V. stands for Curriculum Vitae

• summarizes your experiences and skills WHICH ARE RELEVANT to field of work you are entering (NOT a list of everything you’ve done)

• highlights your accomplishments to show a potential employer that you are qualified for the job

• is intended to get you an interview

• includes more than just your paid work experience (consider including important extracurricular, volunteer, and leadership experiences)

Which items are important?• Heading:

– Your name, address, telephone numbers, email address

• Personal Profile: – describing your of strengths and skills.

Other important items:• Descriptions of duties:

• Descriptions of accomplishments: "I created PowerPoint presentations to train office employees on

the new company software.

• Additional skills: For example: other languages, and in your case you can say that

you have so many years of learning English language (intermediate) and you are an A, B student… You have created, used Power Point for presentations in English, Photo Shop, and so on. Be creative, look into all the things you have accomplished well.

• Interests/hobbies: What do you like to do?

Tips:• Choose a Basic Font - Size 12 is a good size. Use a larger

size for highlights. Bold only highlights.

• Include Keywords - Your resume should include the same keywords that appear in job descriptions.

• CV Format - Choose a chronological, a functional or a combination.

• Prioritize Content - List relevant/important experiences, studies first with key accomplishments listed at the top.

Format and Vocabulary

• Personal Profile: In your personal profile, you write 2 – 3 sentences/statements describing your skills, abilities, and positive personality traits. You need many adjectives to write this section. Here are some adjectives you can use:

• Personal Skills: You can describe your personal skills in your Personal Profile or highlight them seperately.

• Work & Volunteer Experience: After every listing of a job, volunteer activity, or other type of experience, you should details of your exact responsibilities. These should always begin with an action verb.
