• Author/ Editor/Corporate Author (surname always comes first)
• Place of Publication (PoP)

• Copyright date
• Volume/URL/Pagination/Month (These are not applicable to books)

How to Write APA Bibliography Using Different Sources
• For writing bibliographies, use the latest edition (6th) of the APA Handbook. As time progresses bibliography will change and therefore keeping current with writing your bibliography is important.
• Online APA Handbook:
https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/
Books
• For the APA Style the year follows the author’s name and capital letters are used only at the beginning of the titles. For writing the names of authors, write only the surnames and then initial the rest of the names.
• Book with One Author
Teitsort, J. C. (1992). Rainbows for teachers. Michigan: Baker Book House.
• Book with more than three Authors

teaching of composition. Logan: Utah State UP.
A Work in an Anthology, Reference, or Collection
• Works may include an essay in an edited collection or anthology, or a chapter of a book. The basic form for this sort of citation is as follows:
Harris, M. (2000). "Talk to me: Engaging reluctant writers." A tutor's guide: Helping writers one to one. Ed. Ben Rafoth. Portsmouth: Heinemann. pp.24-34.
Article in a Reference Book (e.g. Encyclopaedias, Dictionaries)
Reference: A Multivolume Work
Wiener, P. (Ed.). (1973). Dictionary of the history of ideas (Vols. 1-4). New York, NY: Scribner's.
When citing only one volume of a multivolume work, include the volume number and page numbers after the work's title.
Bergmann, P. G. (1993). Relativity. In The New Encyclopedia Britannica. (Vol. 26, pp. 501-508). Chicago, IL: Encyclopedia Britannica.
Article in Newspaper and Magazine
• Article in a Magazine
Henry, W. A., III. (1990, April 9). Making the grade in today's schools. Time, 135, 28-31.
• Article in a Newspaper
Unlike other periodicals, p. or pp. precedes page numbers for a newspaper reference in APA style. Single pages take p., e.g., p. B2; multiple pages take pp., e.g., pp. B2, B4 or pp. C1, C3-C4.Stewart, S. (2005, December 28). Calls made to strengthen state energy policies. The • Gleaner, pp. 1A, 2A.
Online Scholarly Journal Articles
• In August of 2011 the formatting recommendations for Digital Object Identifier (DOI) changed. DOIs are now rendered as an alpha-numeric string which acts as an active link. According to The APA Style Guide to Electronic References, 6th edition, you should use the DOI format with which the article appears. Because online materials can potentially change URLs, APA recommends providing a Digital Object Identifier (DOI), when it is available, as opposed to the URL. DOIs are an attempt to provide stable, long-lasting links for online articles.
• See next slide for example.
