1 December 9, 2012 Volume VII Dear WRBLSA Supporter, On behalf of the Western Region’s Executive Board of the National Black Law Students Association, it is my pleasure to invite you to our Regional Convention. The Western Regional Convention will be held from January 9 - 12th, 2013 at the DoubleTree Downtown Los Angeles Hotel. We have taken great strides to increase the value of the WRBLSA Regional Convention for our members, alumni and supporters, alike. On behalf of the Western Region’s Executive Board of the National Black Law Students Association, it is my pleasure to invite you to our Regional Convention. The Western Regional Convention will be held from January 9 - 12th, 2013 at the DoubleTree Downtown Los Angeles Hotel.

We have taken great strides to increase the value of the WRBLSA Regional Convention for our members, alumni and supporters, alike. Wednesday, January 9th

5:00 PM - 7:00 PM: Convention Registration.

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM: Chair’s Welcome Reception. Join the Regional Chair for refreshments and peer-to-peer networking! Dress code is Cocktail Casual.

9:30 PM - 10:30 PM: Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition & Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition Mandatory Competitor Meetings.

Thursday, January 10th

7:00 AM - 7:00 PM: Convention Registration.

7:00 AM - 9:00 AM: Breakfast

7:00 AM - 5:00 PM: Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition & Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competition. Preliminary Rounds.

11:00 AM - 5:00 PM: Business Clothing Drive. In partnership with Clothes The Deal, join us in donating Business Clothes for the possibility of a raffle prize at the Gala.

1:00 PM - 3:00 PM: Plenary Session #1. This plenary session will include WRBLSA Executive Board Reports. All Chapter Delegates must attend 2/3 Plenary Session in order to vote during Elections.

3:30 PM - 4:30 PM: Sister-to-Sister & Brother-to-Brother Panel Discussions. These panels will consist of gender specific discussions on successfully navigating the legal profession.

4:30 PM - 5:00 PM: Achievement Award Ceremony Honoring Jackie Lacey. This event will honor Jackie Lacey and her recent election as the first African-American and first African-American Female District Attorney for Los Angeles County.

5:00 PM - 7:00 PM: Welcome to Los Angeles Welcome Reception sponsored by Perkins Coie LLP.

Friday, January 11th

7:00 AM - 7:00 PM: Convention Registration.

7:00 AM - 5:00 PM: Business Clothing Drive. In partnership with Clothes The Deal, join us in donating Business Clothes for the possibility of a raffle prize at the Gala.

7:00 AM - 9:00 AM: Breakfast

7:00 AM - 5:00 PM: Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition & Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competitions.

11:30 AM - 2:00 PM: Community Engagement & Leadership Luncheon featuring John Page sponsored by Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP. This luncheon will feature John Page, the Senior Vice President and Chief Corporate Social Responsibility and Legal Officer of Golden State Foods and also serves as the President of the National Bar Association. The luncheon and ensuing discussion panel will delve into topics of Community Engagement, Service and Leadership.

2:30 PM - 4:00 PM: Plenary Session #2. Board Reports, Constitutional Amendments and Floor Nominations.

4:30 PM - 5:30 PM: Student Debt & Loan Management Workshop hosted by GL Advisor.

6:30 PM - 7:30 PM: Informational Job Fair. Please remember to bring your resumes. If you would like to submit them to the attending firms in advance please e-mail them to [email protected].

Saturday, January 12th

8:00 AM - 7:00 PM: Convention Registration

10:00 AM - 12:30 PM: Alternative Dispute Resolution Panel. Building a successful career in the growing world of Alternative Dispute Resolution.

8:00 AM - 12:00 PM: Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial Competition & Frederick Douglass Moot Court Competitions. Final Rounds.

12:30 PM - 1:30 PM: Pre-Law Panel & Brown Bag Discussion.

1:45 PM - 3:00 PM: Intellectual Property Law Panel Sponsored by Kirkland & Ellis LLP.

3:30 PM - 5:30 PM: Plenary Session # 3. Regional Board Elections

6:00 PM - 9:00 PM: Awards Dinner & Gala. The Gala will feature Keynote Speaker, Angela Rye, Executive Director of the Congressional Black Caucus. The dress code for this event is Black Tie Formal.

10:00 PM - 12:00 AM: All Black After Glow. The Dress Code for this event is All Black Cocktail Attire.
