How long have you worked at KUSM–W and what was your job before

you came here? I’ve worked at the KU School of Medicine–Wichita since August 2011. Prior to

working here, I worked for a Wichita-based company, Legend Senior Living, doing

marketing and project management for over 20 senior living properties throughout

the country.

What are your job responsibilities and what do you like most about your

job? As department administrator, I serve as the business manager and financial

supervisor for the department. The department of Psychiatry is expanding and

growing, which makes it a very exciting time to be here. I enjoy the variety of

projects I interact with including the clinical research trials, the clinic, and the

education of our future health care providers. The department touches the lives of

children, adolescents, and adults with first class mental health services and

treatments.

If you’ve taken the StrengthsFinder assessment and are willing to share

your top 5 strengths, please tell us what they are and briefly share how

you use them in your job. My 5 Strengths are Relator, Learner, Analytical, Input, and Responsibility. Of those

five, it is Responsibility, Learner, and Analytical I relate to most. The

“responsibility” strength is what commits me to the department’s success. In every

position I’ve held I was the go-to person and it is this “learner” strength that will

help me become the same person here at the KU School of Medicine–Wichita.

The “analytical” strength helps me to make the most informed decisions.

What do you do in your spare time? I enjoy traveling with Robert, especially to warm, tropical locations! I love reading

mysteries and invested in a Nook a year ago which I love. Also with the help of the

Wellness Challenge on the Wichita Campus, I’ve renewed my focus on going to

the gym!

What’s a favorite movie and/or book? It would be difficult to name a favorite book, so I’ll just have to say I love murder

mysteries ranging from James Patterson to Patricia Cornwell. Although I’m not

much of a Sci-Fi girl, one of the most addictive series I’ve read recently is “The

Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins.

Who is your hero or the person you most admire and why? I have had the fortune of having many role models in my life who have taught me

kindness, compassion, responsibility, hospitality, and integrity.

Wrap FactWrap FactWrap Fact During the Victorian period, only the wealthier classes

exchanged gifts and the gift wrapping of these gifts was

elaborate and expensive as each gift was topped with

ribbons and laces. The subjects on the wrapping paper

varied from snowy landscapes, to fireplaces, angels,

holly boughs, and St. Nicholas. In 1890, the

flexography process, patented in England, combined

fluid inks with rubber plates wrapped around a print

cylinder, creating a process that was ideally suited to

create stiff papers durable enough for wrapping.
