Open Wound• is an injury involving an external or internal break in body
tissue, usually involving the skin• caused by a clean, sharp-edged object such as a knife, razor,
or glass splinter.• Classified into 7:
• Incision• Laceration• Abration• Avulsion• Ulceration• Puncture• Penetrating
Incision
A wound characterized by a clean cut, as by a sharp instrument.
An incision: a small cut in a finger.
Abrasion wound
an abrasion is a wound caused by superficial damage to the skin, no deeper than the epidermis.
Abrasion on the palm of a right hand, shortly after falling
Avulsion wound
an avulsion is an injury in which a body structure is forcibly detached from its normal point of insertion by either trauma or surgery
Ulceration wound
An ulcer is a sore on the skin or a mucous membrane, accompanied by the disintegration of tissue. Ulcers can result in complete loss of the epidermis and often portions of the dermis and even subcutaneous fat.
Diabetic Foot Ulcer
Penetrating wound
is an injury that occurs when an object pierces the skin and enters a tissue of the body, creating an open wound
Acute penetrating trauma from a close-range shotgun blast injury to knee. Birdshot pellets are visible in the wound, within the shattered patella. The powder wad from the shotgun shell has been extracted from the wound, and is visible at the upper right of the image.
Closed Wound• the skin is intact and the underlying tissue is
not directly exposed to the outside world• Closed wounds are usually caused by direct
blunt trauma sustained when falling down or in motor vehicle accidents.
• Divided into 3 :• Contusion• Hematoma• Sprain
Contusion
• A bruise, or contusion, is caused when blood vessels are damaged or broken as the result of a blow to the skin (be it bumping against something or hitting yourself with a hammer).
Hematoma
hematoma is a collection of blood outside of a blood vessel. It occurs because the wall of a blood vessel wall, artery, vein or capillary, has been damaged and blood has leaked into tissues where it does not belong.
