Words of Gratitude and Blessing

Sam, words fail us as we try to express our deepest thanks to you for the gifts of your talents and your very self that you have given to Big Canoe Chapel for over twelve years. At the piano, you have been both inspiring and entertaining; with your voice, you have spoken and sung the grace of God upon our lives time and again, whether from the choir, the men's chorus, the ensemble, or in a solo. You have gifted us with the Holmes family, and they too have become ours. And the trio has brought us, through your Southern Gospel blend, reminders of the "old, old story of Jesus and His love." You have given the gift of rhythm and music to hun-dreds of VBS children (and their teachers!); and through your ministry to our youth, you have brought energy, creativity, and the message of a lov-ing Jesus as Lord. And when there has been any gap, you have had a will-ingness to fill it. Thank you.

But now, you carry all those gifts with you to "a far country." But in that Judea or Christian environment, you have the opportunity to shine there just as you have here. Something tells us that your light would never be hidden under a bushel. So through your gifts and through your self and through your faith in Jesus, let your light and your talents wrap those around you in God's love. And know that the good work that you have begun here will only grow there, nurtured by the prayers and best wishes of your family and friends here at Big Canoe Chapel. While we are sad-dened to have you leave us, we know there are tremendous opportunities for you and your gifts for your new friends and families.

In Numbers 6:22-27, God spoke to Moses, and told him to give words of blessing to Aaron and his priestly sons, so that they might bless the na-tion of Israel with all of God's favor and gifts. This Aaronic benediction became an expression of the continuing prayer for Israel and for all peo-ple that God will provide in the natural and human spheres order, proc-ess and grace--all of the aspects that our human selves need--"so shall the sons put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them."

And so, Sam, we put God's name upon you today, along with his bless-ings, his favor, and his peace: The LORD bless you and keep you : The LORD make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you : The LORD lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.

Go with our love, Len, Lamar, and the Family at Big Canoe Chapel
