2015
What an incredible Advent season it’s been at Clayton 1st UMC! We’ve had Christmas parties, breakfast with Santa, and we even got to celebrate a first place victory for our float in the Clayton Christmas Parade. And yet even after all of the fun and festivities we’ve experienced so far, I think the best is still yet to come. Here are a few things that you’ll want to jot down on your calendar: Worship Services on December 20thWorship Services on December 20thWorship Services on December 20thWorship Services on December 20th Our 9:30 am Connections service in the Family Life Center will feature some classic, acoustic Christmas songs and we’ll continue in our sermon series, An Inside Out Christ-mas, by looking at one of the most prevalent (but so often ignored) emotions of the holi-day season: Sadness. You’re invited to join us as we explore the intricacies of sadness and how it can help us experience the true joy of Christmas. At our 11:00 am traditional service in the sanctuary, we’ll be celebrating a service of Les-sons and Carols. Through song and Scripture, we’ll retell the story of Jesus’ birth and announce the triumphant news of Christmas. Our songs will feature anthems from our chancel choir, hand bell choir, and congregational singing. We hope you can join us! Christmas Eve Communion and Candlelight Worship ServicesChristmas Eve Communion and Candlelight Worship ServicesChristmas Eve Communion and Candlelight Worship ServicesChristmas Eve Communion and Candlelight Worship Services From 12:00-1:30 pm on Christmas Eve, you’re invited to stop by the sanctuary and re-ceive communion, spend time in prayer or meditation at the altar, or simply enjoy the Christmas hymns played by our organist, Bruce Brownlow. At 5:00 and 7:00 pm, we hope you’ll invite your friends and family to join us in our sanc-tuary for two unforgettable Christmas Eve candlelight worship services. Our 5:00 pm Fam-ily Service will be a bit more casual and kid-friendly and will last about 45 minutes. Our 7:00 pm service will be a traditional service featuring a string quartet ensemble. Both services will offer nursery care for children 4 and under. One Worship Service on December 27One Worship Service on December 27One Worship Service on December 27One Worship Service on December 27thththth On the Sunday after Christmas, December 27, we’ll be combining our worship services for ONE worship service at 11:00 am in the sanctuary. If you’re in town, we’d love to have you join us as celebrate our final worship service of 2015! Whether you’ll be joining us for all of our worship services in the next two weeks or you’ll be out of town visiting friends and family, I hope you have a most blessed Christmas and find a way in the midst of the hustle and bustle to live out the words of one of my favorite Christmas carols, Joy to the WorldJoy to the WorldJoy to the WorldJoy to the World: “Let every heart prepare Him room.”
Amen. So let it be.
Grace & Peace,
Rev. Jeremy

submitted by Mildred Whittaker The following book has been purchased for the Claudia Lee Henson Memorial Library: This Girl is DifferentThis Girl is DifferentThis Girl is DifferentThis Girl is Different by J. J. Johnson. Evie is different. Not just her upbringing - though that’s certainly been unusual - but also her mindset. She’s smart, independent, confident, opinionated and ready to take on a new chal-lenge, the institution of school. It doesn’t take this home-schooled kid long to discover that high school is a whole new world. It’s also a social minefield, and Evie finds herself confronting new problems at every turn. May contain provoc-ative language. This book in the Leadership Development category is a youth book.

Dear Church Family,
Our God is a magnificent and omnipotent God who can heal without a single prayer; but His word tells us, “You do not have because you do not ask God.” (James 4:2). His word also says, “Ask and it will be given to you.” (Matthew 7:7). Thank you for all the asking and praying for me before surgery, during surgery, and recovery to health again; and thanks be to God for answering your prayers. Thank you also for the food, cards, phone calls, texts, emails, and for your precious friendship. I am humbled by your kindness and love of our people. To God be the glory. I love you all,
Sylvia Hodges
