3-FASTING THE MONTH OF RAMADAN the fast is an act of deep personal worship in

which Muslims seek a richer perception of God

Fasting is also an exercise in self-control whereby one's sensitivity is heightened to the sufferings of the poor.

3-FASTING IN THE QURAN O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it

was prescribed for those before you, that you may acquire piety (Taqwa). (2:183)

Fast for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g., an old man), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a poor person (for every day). But whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you fast is better for you if only you know. (2:184)

RAMADAN Begins with sighting of the new moon Abstention from eating, drinking and other

sensual pleasures is obligatory from dawn to sunset

Muslims start their fast at dawn with a breakfast, sahur break their fast at sunset with a special meal, iftar

4-PAYING FINANCIAL OBLIGATION (ZAKAT) Social responsibility is considered part of

one's service to God; the obligatory act of zakat enshrines this

duty. Zakat prescribes payment of fixed

proportions of a Muslim's possessions for the welfare of the entire community and in particular for its neediest members.

It is equal to 2.5 percent of an individual's total net worth, excluding obligations and family expenses.

5- THE PILGRIMAGE TO MAKKAH (HAJJ) Is a significant manifestation of Islamic faith

and unity in the world Hajj is a once in a lifetime duty for those

Muslims who are physically and financially able to make the journey to Makkah

The Hajj is a remarkable spiritual gathering of over two million Muslims from all over the world to the Kaba

In performing the Hajj, a pilgrim follows the order of ritual that the Prophet Muhammad performed during his last pilgrimage.
