Meditations

Let the person who cannot be alone beware of community. Let the one who is not in community beware of being alone. Each by itself has profound perils and pitfalls. One who wants fellowship without solitude plunges into the void of words and feelings, and the one who seeks solitude without fellowship perishes in the abyss of vanity, self-infatuation and despair.

– Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together

stephen Minister CommissioningStatement of Purpose

“Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 After seeing how God has worked in and through my husband,

Blane, I wanted to help others as he has helped and blessed others through the Stephen Ministry. I have seen the impact on his life and it is my hope and prayer that God will use me to serve others through this ministry. -- Cathy Baker

I have been waiting for the right time to pursue training as a Stephen Minister ever since the program started at Second. The right time fi-nally came and I have been greatly blessed by our training experience within the setting of a covenant group. I am excited to practice and grow in the skills we have learned and pray that I will be the pres-ence of Christ to others in need of care. -- Marilyn Buhlig

“The Stephen Ministry has been a blessing to me after my husband’s death. It has been some time that I felt God’s calling to serve Him in the capacity as a Stephen Minister. I trust, with the excellent training and God’s gentle coaching, to be prepared to walk beside one who seeks the help of a Stephen Minister.” Psalm 33:20–22

– Trudy Dixon

I had heard of the Stephen Ministry through family members who have been Ministers in the past and have looked forward to being a part of it. It is a powerful resource for people in need, and I will embrace this opportunity to serve and help others.

– Bob Dusin

My desire to become a Stephen Minister has developed over an ex-tended period of time. As I think of Paul’s words in 2 Corinthians 12, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness,” I know that God has prepared me through circumstances in my life to serve as a wounded healer for others.
