RFID (RADIO-FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION)

Passive RFID tags have no internal power supply. The minute electrical current induced in the antenna by the incoming radio frequency signal provides just enough power for the CMOS integrated circuit in the tag to power up and transmit a response. Most passive tags signal by backscattering the carrier signal from the reader. The response of a passive RFID tag is not necessarily just an ID number; the tag chip can contain non-volatile EEPROM for storing data.

Unlike passive RFID tags, active RFID tags have their own internal power source which is used to power any integrated circuits that generate the outgoing signal.

Active tags are typically much more reliable (e.g. fewer errors) than passive tags due to the ability for active tags to conduct a "session" with a reader.

This Directive establishes a regulatory framework for the placing on the market, free movement and putting into service in the EU of radio equipment and telecommunications terminal equipment.

The aim of this Directive is to create an open and competitive single market for radio equipment and telecommunications terminal equipment. It also aims to ensure a high level of health and safety protection.

Chinese RoHS

Management Methods for Controlling Pollution by Electronic Information Products, Industry Order #39 issued by the Ministry of Information of the Peoples Republic of China took effect on March 1, 2007.

Popularly known as Chinese RoHS, this order is similar in intent to the Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive in the European Community and seeks to protect human health and the environment by controlling the use and disposal of certain toxic substances found in electronics.

However, the exact provisions and steps required for compliance differ considerably from the European directive.

The efficiency of measurements depends on the linkage between the measuring devices and human operators, which is determined by taking into account the human factor, i.e., the ergonomic requirements in designing measuring equipment.

For example, an over-temperature protection device, using a thermal sensor in the windings of an electric motor to de-energize the motor before they can overheat, is an instance of functional safety.
