2. What is a stalemate? Go to this definition of stalemate and write down the definition.

1. How many miles of trenches were dug by each side?

2. Scroll down to the diagram of trench system and do a sketch of the drawing.

2. Take a look at the statistics on war casualties and answer the following questions. (note: bottom of chart is mislabeled-should say Central Powers)

a) What country has the highest % for “casualties as % of war.”

b) What side had a higher % of loss-Allied or Central?

c) What is the overall % of loss for all countries?

d) How do you think this casualty rate impacted the treaty process?
