Major NWS Telecom Initiatives
• Integrated Dissemination Strategy (IDS)– Resetting all dissemination requirements from a
services orientation – technology agnostic– Corporate level solutions provided as a utility– Focus on dissemination but acquisition will be driven
by same business model • Telecommunication Gateway (RTH, GISC, plus)
re-architecture / replacement– Full functional replacement including backups– Full redesign - addresses WIS, NextGen, other rqs– Technology and infrastructure both on the block
• Both subject to funding holds, planning ongoing
TGFTP on the WEB

Regional WIGOS Implementation Planning
• WIGOS framework planning is at national, regional and global levels within the existing financial period (ending 2015)
• Two foci:– First and primary - establishment of mechanisms,
procedures, collaboration and structures to establish the framework to manage the maintenance, update and evolution of observing systems from requirements to service delivery with a focus on integration across multiple component systems, activities and delivered products and services.
14
Regional WIGOS Implementation Planning
• First focus continued:– Observing system management then self-sustaining and
continues to evolve as a normal operational activity– “Implementation Phase” then over, “Operational Phase”
will be ongoing. • Second focus:
– Actual start and execution of activities as determined and prioritized by appropriate bodies to meet the goals of WIGOS.
15
Regional WIGOS Implementation Planning
• The two foci should be documented in Regional WIGOS Implementation Plans (RWIP)– Activities, deliverables, timelines, responsibilities, costs
and risks should be identified– Plans will serve as primary tool to record and guide the
regional implementation– Expected to be maintained and updated as needed
throughout the process.• RAs I, II and V have met and started work on their
Regional WIGOS Implementation Plan (RWIP)
16
Regional WIGOS Implementation Planning
• RA-III/IV Regional WIGOS Implementation Plan meeting - 26-30 November, 2012 in Costa Rica– RA-III & IV will have separate plans, but will share
some common activities. – Exchange of existing AWS already agreed from a
previous TECO– Continue work on improving exchange of RADAR
products with a focus on sharing regional RADAR imagery for generation of regional RADAR mosaics
17
Regional WIGOS Implementation Planning
• RA-III/IV RWIP continued:– Improving availability and utilization of AMDAR data– Improving availability and utilization of observation
metadata– Improving availability and utilization of high resolution
radiosonde data. – Requirements from the RA-IV Hurricane Operations
Plan, marine programs and regional flash flood projects.
