The global medical technology industry is undergoing major change.
New market access regulations and competitors, relentlessly
intensifying cost pressure and an ever-denser network of statutory
requirements mean that companies need to think on their feet.
Finding new solutions together
The high growth rates and margins that themedtech industry used to enjoy are a thing ofthe past. Financial pressure in the healthcaresystems of mature economies is modifying theprocurement behavior of many customers andforcing companies to bring new and innovativeproducts to market faster, more cheaply andwith enhanced customer benefits and ever-shor-ter cycles. Moreover, customers now frequentlywant smaller volumes than they did just a fewyears ago. At the same time, though, emergingmarkets present an opportunity to win new cus-tomers. This, however, requires a new marketentry strategy. There are quite a few companiesthat have no coherent answer to the question"What business model will you be using to earnmoney five years from now?"In this landscape, the World Medtech Forum(WMTF) provides a central meeting place for
medtech experts from all over the world, avenue where they can talk about the currentchallenges and impending problems and dis-cuss new strategies. The aim is to create a plat-form for exploiting synergies and sharedstrengths in preparation for the challengesahead. This is a dialog that welcomes not onlymanufacturers but also specialized service pro-viders, technology partners in the supply indus-try and research-oriented university institutesaround the world which are keen to pursue jointresponses to the industry's concerns. Switzer-land is the ideal venue for this global encounter, because this is where several of the world's big-gest medtech players develop and manufacture. They and a diverse range of small and medium-sized medtech companies together representone of the highest densities of medtech excel-lence anywhere in the world.
MARKET VOLUME CHF 12.5 billion in annual sales. The medical technology industry generatesmore than 2% of Switzerland's GDP.
EMPLOYMENT More than 51,000 jobs EXPORT SECTOR CHF 8.8 billion

"Off to a good start," was how we evaluated the WMTF at the end
of September 2012. We are now working with the same team, the
same partners, with renewed energy and enthusiasm and the
same model to take our vision into the future. The World Medtech
Forum is a high-caliber platform for the international medtech
sector – made by the industry for the industry and Made in Swit-
zerland! This platform is set to be an integral part of the medtech
scene and is open to you as an exhibitor, visitor or congress atten-
dee. So plan your trip to Lucerne now, organize your schedule and
consider how you and your company can play a part in shaping
the forum and using it as a platform for your own business.
Set aside September 17 to 19, 2013 in your diary and start looking
forward to a stimulating cocktail of the latest achievements in
medical technology, to talking to clever people and to the welco-
ming atmosphere at the World Medtech Forum Lucerne.
Welcome to Switzerland!
The WMTF shows how necessary it is for the global medical
technology industry to take a comprehensive approach to future
using partnership-based networks. A comprehensive forum-based
model is the only way for us to unite all stake-holders and industry
players in a constructive dialogue.
Tailored to your needs
Surveys show that exhibitors and visitors alikeappreciate the wide range of topics covered bythe forum. The WMTF features the Center of Attention, a platform for exchanging ideas andtransferring knowledge between the academicand industrial settings and the venue for 40specialist presentations – a concept that com-bines scientific excellence with an internation-al outlook. Other features of the fair include 1-to-1 partnering, Speakers' Corner and theSwiss Lounge, the comfortable place to meetfor individual discussions and larger recep-tions. Medtech Switzerland, one of the strate-gic partners, is organizing a parallel manage-ment conference that will focus on globaltrends and the industry's major markets. Expe-rience has shown that there is a real need for an
event that networks the international medicaltechnology sector at an institutional level –with the participation of national delegations, chambers of trade and commerce and industri-al organizations. The WMTF offers lasting benefits to expertsfrom all backgrounds. No matter whetheryou're an exhibitor participant or visitor, yourpresence will contribute to shaping this inter-national venue for the medical technology sector. Our task is to make sure that the WMTFfulfills your needs and wishes.

for several years, at least 20% of the products in their portfolio
must target the medtech industry, and ideally they should also be
certified to ISO 13485.
