The English Monarchy – The Tudors
• GRADE LEVEL : 10th
• SUBJECT: World History
• Class Size: 24 students
• Unit of Study: 3 Class periods with corresponding homework assignments of at least one hour .
The English Monarchy – The Tudors
• Purpose: to become aware of the major political, cultural and religious developments in world history at the time of the Tudors and their important roles in these events, especially Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.

• Procedure and Task– Day 1 Class will meet in Library/computer lab and be divided in
eight groups of 3 at workstations with internet access.– Teacher with class will investigate the time period with search
engines and use Mind Meister to brainstorm and interconnect the important issues and individuals of the era.
– Each group will plot these events on the web tool free-timeline.com at their stations .
– Teacher will identify key social, cultural, political, religious, economic and historic events that need to be on their timeline. Homework assignment is to complete this task collaboratively and submit work by end of next class.

• Procedure and Tasks:– Day 2 Class divides into their groups to revise the timelines for
submissions.– Teacher informs class that their next task is to create either a
cartoon using web tool ToonDoo depicting a historical event / character or a Word document of no more than 500 words analyzing the role and contribution of an individual from this time period.
– The remainder of the period the class will work individually at workstations exploring the internet on the topic they have chosen.
– For homework the students will synthesize their research and produce a finished project.
– Students without access to computers at home will be allowed to initially write out their document or draw free-hand their cartoon but will be given lab time to accomplish the technology portion of this assignment.

• Procedure and Tasks:– Day 3 The class meets in their regular classroom where each
student will present their work.– Students will discuss why this particular event or individual was
chosen. – Students will read their word document papers and answer any
questions concerning their topic.– Students will present their cartoons and explain the connection
to the Tudors, if necessary. Inquiries will also be answered.– Students will discuss, reflect and access each others creations
and select which ones should be displayed on the class bulletin board.
– The class will end with the students being informed that the following day there will be a test of 25 multiple choice questions(2 points each) and an essay worth 50 points on the Tudors and their time.

• Teacher Preparation– Must reserve the computer lab for two full periods– Ensure that the Mind Meister account is current.– Check that each workstation has an internet
connection, access to free-timeline.com, Word and ToonDoo set-ups.
– Verify that students have access to the internet and permission for ToonDoo accounts at home.
